PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Drew Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Communism (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Drew Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladimir Communism !
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Communism counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Communism feints and as Diaz raises his hands in defense, Communism changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Communism must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Communism from controlling successfully.

Diaz is looking for a triangle here but Communism uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Communism is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Diaz's shoulder. That is not cool.
Communism is working Diaz over with some ground and pound from side control.
Diaz dodges the ground and pound from Communism .
Communism cracks Diaz with an elbow. That is naaassty.
A lull in the action here.

Communism staying calm.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Communism has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Diaz!

Communism looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Communism wants to control the pace but Diaz is squirming around nicely.
Diaz is in all sorts of trouble here.
Communism controlling the pace for now.

Communism swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Diaz is now in Communism 's guard. A big mistake from Communism there, giving up the dominant position!

Communism avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Diaz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Communism had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diaz defends it easily.

Communism has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diaz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Communism is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Communism looking for a guillotine here but Diaz defends easily.

Communism throws his legs up looking for a submission but Diaz uses it to pass to side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Diaz decides to stand back up. Diaz steps back and let's Communism get back to his feet.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Communism looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Diaz pushes past his half guard into mount!

Diaz jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Communism manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Diaz has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Diaz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Communism is trying to defend but Diaz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Drew Diaz will probably get the nod.
That's time! Diaz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Communism throws a head kick that misses.

and Communism counters by moving into the clinch.

Diaz tries to pull guard but Communism holds him up against the cage and eventually Diaz drops back down to his feet.

Communism is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Diaz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Communism has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diaz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Communism is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Diaz wanted to stand there but Communism had control of the position.

Diaz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Communism , up you get!

Diaz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Diaz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Communism sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Diaz somewhat.

Communism is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Communism wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Communism with a flurry of punches that miss.
Diaz striking off his back but it's not causing Communism any problems.
Communism not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Vladimir Communism wasn't active enough on the ground.
Diaz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Diaz throws a nice looking combination but Communism bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Communism drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Communism prevents Diaz from getting back to his feet.
Communism passes Diaz's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Diaz is not content to let Communism control the position.
Diaz is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Communism not doing much here.
Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vladimir Communism showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Communism is looking to clinch but Diaz is avoiding it.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.

Communism shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Diaz tries to reverse the position but Communism maintains control.
Diaz regains half guard.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet.
Diaz tries to get to full guard but Communism has control of the leg.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Communism is controlling the pace.
Vladimir Communism has got the better of the ground game so far.

Diaz pushes Communism off looking to stand but Communism dives back in and keeps control.
Diaz manages to get to full guard.
Diaz wants to sweep but no luck.
Diaz is looking to stand up but Communism isn't so interested in that idea.
Communism controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Let's hope that Communism has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but Communism is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Vladimir Communism hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Communism gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Communism pulls guard successfully.
Communism throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Communism looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Diaz passes into half guard.

Diaz decides to stand and escape the position.
Communism is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Communism moves in looking to clinch but Diaz pushes him off.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Communism moves out of range.
Diaz is looking to clinch.
Communism stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Communism wants it to stay on the feet.
Communism looks to land a combination but Diaz avoids it well.

Diaz clinches up with Communism and pushes him back against the cage.
Communism misses with a body punch.
Diaz stalling the fight.
Communism is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Diaz is defending well for now.

Diaz has clasped his hands together around Communism 's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Communism tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Diaz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Communism is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Diaz stands up out of the half guard.
Diaz fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Communism rushes Diaz and presses him up against the cage.
A body shot lands from Diaz.
Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.
Communism tries to clinch but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.
Communism on the wrong end of a nice jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Drew Diaz.
I think Diaz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
