Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dru Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jyn Karinzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jyn Karinzo!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Rivers tries a head kick but it misses.
Karinzo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rivers avoids it really well and circles away.
Rivers looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Rivers misses with a low kick.
Karinzo looks to score with a jab to the body but Rivers is just out of range.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Rivers scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Rivers throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rivers moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like Jyn Karinzo has been cut.

so Karinzo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rivers wants to control but Karinzo is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Karinzo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Karinzo is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Rivers kicks off Karinzo and gets to his feet.
Rivers misses with a low kick.

Rivers pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rivers slips a jab from Karinzo.
Rivers tries to clinch but Karinzo moves out of range.
Rivers throws a sloppy head kick and Karinzo moves out of range easily.
Rivers throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rivers misses with a low kick.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Karinzo dives in and grabs Rivers's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rivers pushes down on Karinzo's head and hops out.
Rivers throws a leg kick but Karinzo checks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Karinzo counters with a single leg into guard. Rivers didn't expect that.
Rivers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karinzo on the ground.
Karinzo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rivers swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rivers is trying to control the position but Karinzo postures up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Karinzo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rivers trying to keep a closed guard but Karinzo is proving a slippery customer.
Karinzo trying to control but Rivers is working from the bottom.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rivers is pulling down on Karinzo's head to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Dru Rivers just wasn't active enough.
Rivers stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Rivers finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Karinzo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rivers sprawls well initially but Karinzo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Rivers is refusing to be controlled, as Karinzo sits in half guard.
Karinzo wants to pass to mount but Rivers is defending the position.
Rivers has hold of Karinzo's hands but Karinzo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Karinzo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rivers doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Karinzo.
Karinzo wants to pass the guard but Rivers is defending well.
Rivers is trying to stand up here but Karinzo is controlling him well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Karinzo is keen to just control but Rivers is a slippery customer.
Karinzo uses his free foot to push down on Rivers's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rivers.

Karinzo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Rivers has worked his arm free - good work by Rivers!

Jyn Karinzo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Karinzo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rivers tries to avoid it but Karinzo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rivers to the ground. Rivers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rivers.
Rivers lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rivers lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Rivers tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rivers lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Rivers ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Rivers shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Rivers throws a half hearted mid kick.
Rivers catches Karinzo with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
A thudding body kick lands there by Rivers!
Rivers leaves Karinzo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Karinzo blocks the body kick.
Dru Rivers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rivers pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rivers throws a good cross that connects.


That has opened up Jyn Karinzo's cut even more.
Rivers throws a head kick that misses.
Rivers throws an off balance right hand

and Karinzo counters with a shoot takedown. Rivers fights it but they end up in guard.

Karinzo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Karinzo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rivers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Karinzo has Rivers in his guard.

Karinzo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rivers tries to free his leg and advance position but Karinzo is retaining full guard.
Karinzo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rivers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Karinzo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rivers has managed to get both his arms back between Karinzo's legs - danger averted.

Karinzo misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The referee warns Rivers that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Karinzo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rivers turns into him and now he's in Karinzo's guard.
Karinzo is trying to control the position but Rivers postures up.
Karinzo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Rivers on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rivers tries to get out of the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Karinzo has control of Rivers's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rivers regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Karinzo tries to control but Rivers wriggling away.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Karinzo counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Karinzo passes into half guard.
Karinzo wants to free his trapped foot but Rivers is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Karinzo is nestled in close to Rivers, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Karinzo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rivers keeps working.

Rivers pushes Karinzo off looking to stand but Karinzo dives back in and keeps control.

Karinzo has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Rivers defend it? Karinzo steps over the head and cranks it - Rivers is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Karinzo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 5, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jyn Karinzo!
