PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jebidiah Knepp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aldo comes to the cage accompanied by Rough Rida. Knepp is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Amish Paradise. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jebidiah Knepp!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo wants to clinch
and Knepp counters with a slapping leg kick.
Aldo looks to clinch
and Knepp counters with a good low kick that Aldo was not able to check.
Knepp misses with a wild body shot.
Aldo throws a lazy uppercut
and Knepp counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aldo tries to clinch but Knepp moves away

and Knepp counters by clinching up.
Aldo lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Knepp or not.

Knepp turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aldo tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Aldo slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Aldo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Knepp's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Knepp's back!

Aldo is looking for a rear naked choke here but Knepp reverses the position brilliantly into Aldo's guard!
Knepp wants to control from the top but Aldo keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aldo is looking to stand up but Knepp isn't so interested in that idea.
Knepp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aldo swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Aldo is trying to keep Knepp in close.
Knepp wants to pass the guard but Aldo is keeping the position.

Knepp is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Aldo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Aldo has escaped and now he's on top!
Knepp has a closed guard, preventing Aldo from standing up.

Aldo wants to stand and escape but instead Knepp has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Knepp in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Knepp wants to control from the top but Aldo keeps moving.
Aldo wants to stand and escape but Knepp is having none of it.
Knepp pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Aldo is keeping the position for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Aldo is on top in guard.

Aldo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Knepp manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Aldo has Knepp in his guard.

Knepp controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Knepp won't allow Aldo to get back to his feet.
Knepp throws a big right hand that misses.

Knepp drops back looking for a leg! Aldo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Aldo manages to kick Knepp off! Knepp jumps back into Aldo's guard.

Aldo doesn't manage to clinch there - Knepp circles away.

It looks like Jose Aldo has been cut.

Aldo swings wildly with an uppercut but Knepp uses good head movement to avoid it.

Knepp digs a right hand into Aldo's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Aldo's gas tank.
Knepp is looking to control Aldo's arms but Aldo gets an underhook and turns him. Now Knepp has his back to the cage.

Knepp presses Aldo against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Knepp gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Knepp takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Knepp is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Aldo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Knepp.
Aldo is trying to get back to full guard.

Aldo looks like he's trying to stand up.
Knepp working over Aldo with some ground and pound. Aldo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Knepp prevents Aldo from standing back up.
Aldo is staying active underneath Knepp, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aldo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Knepp is working away from the top position though.
Aldo won't allow Knepp to pass to mount.

Knepp is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Knepp connects with a nice short shot to Aldo's temple.

Knepp is looking to advance position but Aldo won't allow it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aldo trying to control from the bottom.
Knepp sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Aldo defending well though.
Aldo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Aldo is looking to escape.
Knepp throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Aldo tries to kick Knepp off but Knepp keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Knepp looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Aldo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Aldo keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Knepp has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Knepp is looking for a kimura but Aldo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Knepp to get the leverage.
Knepp is trying to control. Aldo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Knepp throwing shots but Aldo is blocking nicely.
Knepp has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jebidiah Knepp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Knepp holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Knepp avoiding damage.

Knepp looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Aldo lands a body shot in the clinch.
Aldo managing to block the knees to the body from Knepp.
Knepp tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Knepp lands with a light punch inside.
Aldo scores with a shot to the side of Knepp's head.
Aldo throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Knepps head.

Aldo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Aldo darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Aldo moves to clinch but Knepp breaks away
letting Knepp counter with a right hand.

Aldo swings away with a body shot that misses
and Knepp makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Aldo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Knepp counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Aldo thinking.
The crowd cheers as Knepp lands an impressive looking overhand right. Aldo doesn't seem phased though.
Knepp scores with a hook to the body. Aldo takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

and Knepp counters with a nice low kick that buckles Aldo's knee momentarily.

Knepp throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aldo's waist but Aldo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Knepp off to one side.

and Knepp counters with a stiff right hand.

Knepp throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Aldo takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aldo closes the distance looking to clinch
and Knepp counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Aldo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Knepp counters with a two punch combo.
Aldo clobbers Knepp with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aldo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Knepp connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jebidiah Knepp comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Knepp has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
