Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Stackstein! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mercury Johnson! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stackstein throws a right and a left that both miss. Mercury Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johnson scores with a jab to the body. Johnson swinging wildly here.
Johnson feints and as Stackstein raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Johnson's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Johnson thows a big elbow that misses. Stackstein is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Stackstein controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself. Stackstein utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Johnson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Johnson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Stackstein has wrist control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Johnson throws a big right hand that misses. Stackstein could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Johnson content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Stackstein is retaining full guard. Stackstein utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Johnson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Johnson's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Johnson stands up over Stackstein, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Johnson chips away with some ground and pound.
Stackstein is rocked! Johnson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Oh Stackstein is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Johnson postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Stackstein covers up, he's hurt! Johnson keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Johnson and the ref steps in to end the fight! Johnson can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mercury Johnson!
