PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rua might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Kevin Rudolf - In the city . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Duke Jordan! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Rua looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Rua won't allow Jordan to sweep him here. Rua trying to control but Jordan is working from the bottom. Rua is looking to stand up but Jordan won't let him. Rua prevents Jordan from getting back to his feet. Jordan tries to land a sweep but no joy. Jordan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Jordan is pulling down on Rua's head to control his posture. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Jordan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Jordan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rua, pushing him back against the cage. Jordan lands a left hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jordan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rua gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jordan is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Rua drags the fight down to the ground.
Jordan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Rua seems keen to control Jordan's posture. Rua wants to stand and escape but Jordan is having none of it. Rua will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Jordan tries to stand but Rua is controlling from the bottom. Rua has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Jordan won't allow Rua to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jordan trying to control but Rua is working from the bottom.
John Rua has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Rua is looking to clinch. Jordan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rua tries to avoid it but Jordan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rua to the ground. Rua escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Rua lands a front kick. Jordan looks gassed! Rua shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rua was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Jordan is bucking up trying to escape but Rua cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Rua takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Rua lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Rua controlling the pace for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua lands a nice shot to the head. Rua tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Jordan tries to reverse the position but Rua maintains control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rua controlling his opponent. Rua blocks Jordan's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rua lands with some strikes. Rua working away from the top, dropping strikes. Jordan tries to hold on but Rua postures up. Rua postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Jordan in real trouble here! The ref calls for Jordan to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Rua!
