PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Strikes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Da Mian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Da Mian!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mian has his takedown stuffed
and Strikes counters with a left to the body.
Mian misses with a takedown attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Strikes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Strikes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mian swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Strikes wants to clinch up but Mian keeps it at a distance.
Strikes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Strikes moves to clinch but Mian breaks away

and Mian counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Strikes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mian wants to control from the top but Strikes keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mian looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Mian wants to pass the guard but Strikes is keeping the position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mian trying to control the position from guard on top but Strikes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Da Mian.
A solid leg kick lands there for Strikes.
Carlos Strikes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mian shoots in for a double leg but Strikes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Carlos Strikes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Da Mian.
Strikes looks to clinch

and Mian counters with a single leg into guard. Strikes didn't expect that.
Mian wants to control from the top but Strikes keeps moving.
Mian showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mian throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Strikes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Mian prevents Strikes from getting back to his feet.
Strikes has Mian pulled in close to control his posture.
Mian pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Strikes is keeping the position for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Strikes moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Mian tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strikes swivels and escapes.

Mian drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Strikes struggling a bit here.
Mian misses with the ground and pound.
Strikes prevents Mian from moving into mount.

Strikes holds on to Mian's head and controls the position momentarily.
Mian in side control, throwing shots but Strikes defends.
Mian moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Da Mian dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Strikes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Strikes misses with a wild combination.
Strikes misses with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Strikes throws a series of punches but Mian moves out of range.

Strikes throws a nice inside leg kick.
Strikes connects with a high kick.
Carlos Strikes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mian shoots in but no luck this time.
Mian misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Strikes.

Mian closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mian happy to just control the position for now.
Strikes is looking to reverse the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mian tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mian has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mian wants to lay and pray for a moment but Strikes keeps working.
Strikes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mian wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mian controlling the position.

Mian has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Strikes is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mian yanks on the arm and Strikes is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mian.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Da Mian!
Da Mian is the new welterweight champion!
