PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amir Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bax Baczikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Amir Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bax Baczikov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Khan misses
and Baczikov counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Khan rushes Baczikov and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Khan gets control of Baczikov's arms and successfully pulls guard. Khan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Baczikov wanted to stand there but Khan had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Khan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Khan looking for a guillotine here but Baczikov defends easily.
Khan striking off his back but it's not causing Baczikov any problems.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Baczikov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Khan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Baczikov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Khan wants to hit a switch here but Baczikov passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Khan there!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baczikov controlling the pace for now.
Khan is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Khan wants to control but Baczikov is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Khan is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bax Baczikov will probably get the nod.
That's time! Khan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Khan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Baczikov defends it nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Khan is defended easily by Baczikov.

Khan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Khan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Khan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Khan moves to take his opponent's back.

Baczikov is in a bad position with Khan working for a choke. Baczikov manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
Baczikov content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Let's hope that Baczikov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bax Baczikov was stalling too much, according to the referee.

and Baczikov counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Baczikov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Khan pinned against the cage. Khan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Khan shoots in and drives through. Baczikov sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Amir Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Baczikov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Khan circles away.

Khan clinches up against the cage.
Khan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Khan tries to circle away but Baczikov has him pinned against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Khan tries to break the clinch but Baczikov is controlling the position.

Khan stops a takedown attempt from Baczikov.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amir Khan dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Khan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Baczikov moves into the clinch.
Baczikov drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Khan gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Khan trying to control the position but instead, Baczikov has worked for underhooks and has pushed Khan into the cage.
Khan tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Baczikov just stands there and leans against the cage.

Baczikov changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Khan fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Khan gets a takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baczikov desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Khan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Khan wants to control but Baczikov is keeping him busy.
Baczikov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Baczikov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Amir Khan wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Khan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Baczikov did well to prevent Khan getting side control.
Khan is stalling here. Baczikov is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Khan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Baczikov has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Baczikov avoids the strikes from the bottom by Khan.
Khan is trying to get back to half guard.
Khan struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Khan is looking to reverse the position.
Khan wants to control but Baczikov postures up.
Khan tries to control but Baczikov manages to take his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Khan trying to control the position but Baczikov manages to sink in the hooks.

And that's the end of the fight!
Amir Khan showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Khan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
