Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Igor Slobovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Karpushev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Igor Slobovic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Karpushev! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Fedor Mirinova.

Karpushev gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Slobovic to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Slobovic is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Slobovic trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Slobovic working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Slobovic postures up in Karpushev's guard and throws a big left but Karpushev blocks it.
Slobovic decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Karpushev, up you get!
Slobovic closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Karpushev's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Slobovic pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Karpushev is keeping the position for now. Slobovic scoring with some ground and pound. Slobovic throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Karpushev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Slobovic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Karpushev is trying to control the position but Slobovic postures up. Slobovic scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
![](https://www.mmatycoon.com/images/fight/1.gif) That's one minute gone in the round. Slobovic with a nice head shot there. Slobovic trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Slobovic tries to free his leg and advance position but Karpushev is retaining full guard.
Karpushev is working an open guard so Slobovic takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Slobovic. Slobovic tries to clinch but Karpushev moves out of range.
Slobovic closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Slobovic is looking for a kimura but Karpushev is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Slobovic to get the leverage. Karpushev looks gassed! Slobovic landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Slobovic takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Slobovic stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Slobovic shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Karpushev napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Slobovic is working Karpushev over with some ground and pound from side control. Karpushev is working to avoid the ground and pound but Slobovic connects with a decent elbow.

Slobovic is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Karpushev looks calm but he's in trouble here. Slobovic gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Karpushev is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Slobovic lets go of the hold and Karpushev can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Igor Slobovic!
