PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Matthew McAllister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Time to Shine as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matthew McAllister!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McAllister tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.

McAllister closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jones did well to prevent McAllister getting side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Jones is trying to maintain the position but McAllister is very close to passing his half guard.
Jones misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jones keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Jones wants to control but McAllister is keeping busy and won't allow it.
McAllister is controlling the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Matthew McAllister wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Jones darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like Matthew McAllister has been cut.

McAllister stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken.

Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
McAllister is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jones prevents McAllister from standing back up.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jones thows a huge punch but McAllister dodges it nicely.
McAllister wants to control but Jones is keeping busy.
Jones is keen to just control but McAllister is a slippery customer.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Frank Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
McAllister gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jones holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with McAllister.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McAllister shoots and misses

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew McAllister. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McAllister is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones wants to control from the top but McAllister keeps moving.
McAllister can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Jones postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Matthew McAllister.
McAllister misses with a takedown

and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McAllister!
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jones wants to control the pace but McAllister is squirming around nicely.

Jones thowing shots but they're missing.
Jones sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones looking to control but McAllister is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
McAllister is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Jones trying to control but McAllister is working from the bottom.
Frank Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jones gets to his feet. McAllister looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
McAllister wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McAllister won't allow Jones to pass to mount.

Jones is looking for a kimura but McAllister is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jones to get the leverage.
Jones controlling the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McAllister has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.
McAllister moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
McAllister has Jones pulled in close to control his posture.
Jones wants to pass the guard but McAllister is keeping the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones slips nicely into half guard.
McAllister gets full guard.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but McAllister is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McAllister seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

McAllister is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Jones is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
