Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Riggins Maloy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Barros! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maloy looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Maloy wants to stand but Barros has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Maloy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Maloy won't allow Barros to sweep him here. Barros working for a triangle but Maloy defends it easily.
Maloy is looking to stand up but Barros won't let him. Barros trying to control the position.
Barros looking for a guillotine here but Maloy defends easily.
Barros looking for a sweep. Not yet Barros, not yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barros looking to control but Maloy passes into half guard.

Barros tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Maloy has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Barros really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Barros looks gassed! Barros is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. A nice elbow there by Maloy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Maloy lands a big shot there that rocks Barros but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Barros bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Barros won't allow Maloy to sweep him here. Barros tries to free his leg and advance position but Maloy is retaining full guard. Maloy wants to stand but Barros is controlling the position. Barros stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maloy swivels though and keeps the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barros preventing the sweep. Maloy striking from the bottom.
Maloy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Barros is controlling him. Maloy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barros doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barros manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Barros misses with a takedown attempt and Maloy counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barros has hold of Maloy's hands but Maloy slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Well, if Maloy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Maloy seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Barros has hold of Maloy's hands but Maloy slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Barros is trying to maintain the position but Maloy is very close to passing his half guard. Barros tries to get to full guard but Maloy has control of the leg. Barros gets full guard. Maloy avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Maloy could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Barros throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Barros wants to sweep but no luck.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maloy sitting in guard, not really doing much. Barros wants to sweep but no luck. Maloy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barros swivels though and keeps the full guard. Maloy showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Barros is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Barros throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Maloy trying to control but Barros is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Riggins Maloy will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Maloy. Maloy wants to control but Barros is keeping him busy. Barros gets back to half guard. Maloy trying to control from Barros's half guard. Barros has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Maloy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Barros on the ground. Barros looking to control.
Maloy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Maloy stopping the sweep attempt from Barros. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Barros is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maloy trying to control the position from guard on top but Barros is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barros manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Barros looking to isolate an arm here. Maloy doesn't see it coming and as Barros extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Barros!
