PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dwayne Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Pablo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waters comes to the cage accompanied by 50 Cent - Ready for War. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dwayne Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Pablo!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pablo swinging wildly here.
Waters with a lazy takedown attempt
and Pablo counters with a right hand to the body.
Pablo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Waters throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Pablo displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Pablo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pablo throws an overhand right that lands on Waters's shoulder, as Waters tries to avoid the shot.
Pablo moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Waters throws a leg kick that is checked
and Pablo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Waters blocks a jab.
Pablo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Waters shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Pablo tries to reverse the position but Waters maintains control.
Waters looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Waters wants to control the pace but Pablo is squirming around nicely.
Pablo tries to buck Waters off but he can't manage it.
Waters has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pablo defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Waters.
Waters in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Waters is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Waters is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Pablo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Pablo shrugs it off.
Waters can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pablo is looking to escape.
Waters lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Pablo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Well, if Waters is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Waters tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pablo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Waters works his foot free and advances to mount.
Pablo is squirming around, avoiding Waters's attempts to control the action.
Waters misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Waters takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Waters throws some wild stikes that Pablo manages to avoid easily.
Waters controlling his opponent.
Pablo takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Pablo wants to hold on but Waters pushes him away.
Waters landing punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pablo is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Waters controlling from the full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Waters blocks the body kick.
Waters wants to land a leg kick but Pablo is out of range.
Waters tries a head kick but it misses.
Waters misses with a leg kick
and Pablo makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pablo throws a lazy head kick
and Waters counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Pablo is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Pablo misses with a double jab.
Pablo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Waters.

Pablo throws a sloppy head kick and Waters moves out of range easily.
Waters is looking to clinch.
Pablo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Donk. Waters catches Pablo right on the button with a cross.
Pablo throws a body kick the misses
and Waters counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Waters fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pablo to the ground. Waters is now in Pablo's guard.
Pablo is breathing heavily.
Waters is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Waters chips away with some ground and pound.
Waters looking to pass the guard.
Waters is working hard here to advance position.
Waters looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pablo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Waters's guard.

Waters has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pablo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Dwayne Waters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Waters not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pablo preventing the sweep.

Waters is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pablo is aware though and is defending well.

Pablo wants to get up but he can't break Waters's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Waters looking for a sweep. Not yet Waters, not yet.
Pablo wants to stand but Waters is controlling his posture from full guard.
Waters really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pablo is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwayne Waters dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Pablo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Waters cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Waters scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Waters avoids the body shot from Pablo.
Juan Pablo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Waters shoots in and drives through. Pablo sprawls well.
Waters throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Pablo misses with a series of wild punches.
Waters fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pablo scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Waters doesn't seem bothered though.
Juan Pablo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Waters connects with a jab.
Pablo throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Waters lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pablo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Waters on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Waters throws a hook to the side of Pablo's head but Pablo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Waters tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pablo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Waters misses the body punch
and Pablo counters with a one-two to the body.


It looks like Dwayne Waters has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pablo takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Waters is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pablo throws a left and a right that both miss
and Waters counters with a three punch combo that has Pablo backing up. Pablo nods at Waters to acknowledge the strikes.
Dwayne Waters is winning the standup battle so far.
Pablo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Waters counters with a good low kick that Pablo was not able to check.
Waters throws a leg kick
and Pablo counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A looping hook to the body misses from Waters. Pablo does a little dance to reset his feet.
Waters throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Pablo throws a sloppy head kick

and Waters counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pablo won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pablo tries to improve position but can't.
Dwayne Waters is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waters just content to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waters landing a few strikes.
Waters wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pablo keeps working.

Waters tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Waters has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Pablo is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Waters staying calm.
Juan Pablo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pablo avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Waters.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dwayne Waters showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Waters has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
