Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Louie Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Woima Karhu! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez slips a jab and a cross from Karhu.
Karhu fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mendez, pushing him back against the cage. Mendez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Mendez tries to clinch and Karhu counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mendez! Mendez is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Karhu can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendez is looking to escape. Karhu working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Karhu looking to finish with strikes here!

Karhu throws some wild stikes that Mendez manages to avoid easily.
Karhu moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mendez has worked his arm free - good work by Mendez!
Karhu wants to control but Mendez is keeping him busy. Karhu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mendez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Karhu's guard! Nice work there by Mendez!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Woima Karhu was stalling too much, according to the referee. Karhu fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Mendez is looking to clinch but Karhu is avoiding it.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Karhu. Karhu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Karhu wants to control from the top but Mendez keeps moving. Karhu has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mendez is proving hard to escape from.

Mendez is looking to stand up but Karhu isn't so interested in that idea. Karhu in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Karhu stops Mendez from standing up. Woima Karhu dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Mendez lands with an uppercut that bounces Karhu off the cage and back into rage. Karhu goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Mendez lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Mendez scores with a decent looking hook. Mendez throws a lazy head kick and Karhu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mendez won't be happy with that. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Karhu tries for a kimura but Mendez is defending well. Karhu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mendez, who protects the arm well. Karhu working the ground and pound but Mendez is defending the strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Karhu swings around for an armbar but Mendez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Karhu's guard. Karhu is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Karhu wants to hit a switch here but Mendez passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Karhu there!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez wants to get back to his feet but Karhu is holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Karhu tries to lock up and control but Mendez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Karhu tries to get back to half guard but can't. Mendez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karhu on the ground. Karhu tries to hold on but Mendez pushes him away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mendez controlling from mount. Karhu is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Woima Karhu will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Woima Karhu's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Karhu is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mendez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mendez shrugs it off. Karhu is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mendez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mendez! Karhu is pulling down on Mendez's head. It's preventing any offense from Mendez, at least for the moment. Mendez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Karhu looking for subs off his back but Mendez has passed one foot through into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Karhu makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Karhu. Karhu is trying to control the position but Mendez postures up. Mendez preventing the sweep. Karhu throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mendez escapes and throws Karhu's legs to the side, diving into side control! You can see the frustration on Karhu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Karhu is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Karhu is looking for a sweep. Mendez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. A combination from Mendez does no damage. Mendez tries to clinch up but Karhu circles away and keeps his distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Karhu moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Mendez tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Karhu counters with a single leg into guard. Mendez didn't expect that. Karhu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Karhu wants to control from the top but Mendez keeps moving. Karhu throwing strikes but missing. Karhu trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Karhu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Mendez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Louie Mendez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Karhu working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Karhu pushes down on Mendez's leg and manages to get into half guard. Woima Karhu is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Karhu perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Karhu works his way into full mount!
And that's the end of the fight! Woima Karhu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Karhu winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
