Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron Mare! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Karl Ohertz! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ohertz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mare's guard. Mare trying to control the position.
Ohertz trying to control the position from guard on top but Mare is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mare can't keep his opponent in guard - Ohertz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ohertz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mare defending well though. Ohertz prevents Mare from improving his position. Ohertz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Mare wants to stand and escape but Ohertz is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ohertz throws a big right hand that misses. Mare wants to sweep but no luck. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ohertz's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Mare will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mare preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Ohertz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Ohertz scoring with some ground and pound. Ohertz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Mare is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Ohertz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Mare is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mare is breathing heavily. Ohertz scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mare wants to sweep here but Ohertz controlling him for the moment. Ohertz is working Mare over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! Ohertz is working the ground and pound from guard. The fighters roll with the hold and Mare manages to kick Ohertz off! Ohertz jumps back into Mare's guard. Ohertz wants to control from the top but Mare keeps moving. Ohertz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Ohertz lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Ohertz has gone for a leg lock! Mare slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ohertz's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ohertz scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Ohertz doesn't succeed with the takedown and Mare counters with a nice uppercut. Ohertz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mare did well to prevent Ohertz getting side control. Ohertz drops an elbow to the side of Mare's head. Ohertz scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Nice strikes from Ohertz there. Ohertz is keen to just control but Mare is a slippery customer. Ohertz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ohertz lands a nice short elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ohertz trying to control the action but Mare is working from the bottom. Ohertz working the head and body with strikes. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ohertz connects with a nice short shot to Mare's temple. This has been an exciting period of action! Ohertz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mare! Ohertz looking to control but Mare is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ohertz working away from the top, dropping strikes. Ohertz scoring with strikes but Mare is staying in there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Karl Ohertz dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Ohertz forces Mare back against the cage and clinches. Ohertz turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ohertz manages to end up in side control. Ohertz lands an elbow. Ohertz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mare has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ohertz but great work by Mare. Ohertz prevents Mare from moving into mount. Ohertz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mare is controlling him well. Ohertz has one of Mare's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage. Ohertz gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Ohertz has one foot on Mare's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Mare gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ohertz to score an easy takedown into full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ohertz passes Mare's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ohertz is looking to take a break and control but Mare is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ohertz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ohertz content to control rather than advance. Ohertz slips a nice elbow through Mare's hands, connecting with Mare's forehead. Ohertz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Ohertz lands strikes from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ohertz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Ohertz is working for a guillotine from mount but Mare frees his head quite easily.
Mare is squirming around, avoiding Ohertz's attempts to control the action. Ohertz lands a nice shot to the head. Ohertz with good strikes from the mount here! Ohertz lands a nice shot to the head. Ohertz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Karl Ohertz has got the better of the ground game so far. Mare taking shots to the head.
Mare is rocked!

Ohertz loads up with a big shot that hurts Mare! He's pulled Ohertz in close but Ohertz has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Mare survive? More strikes from Ohertz and Mare is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
