Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Randjob Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Rae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randjob Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Rae!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rae throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
No joy there for Rae, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jab from Gracie.
A big left from Rae misses.
Rae throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracie.
Gracie lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Gracie slips under a jab from Rae.
Rae scores with a nice body kick.
Rae lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gracie at a distance.
Rae swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
A swing and a miss from Rae.
Rae throws a lazy uppercut
and Gracie counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rae thinking.
Gracie throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rae connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Gracie staying out of range there.
Gracie misses with a lunging right hand
letting Rae counter with a right hand.
Rae bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gracie's head.
Rae looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range.
Gracie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rae lands a nice shot that snaps Gracie's head back.
A jab from Rae finds it's way through Gracie's defenses.

Gracie takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Rae misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gracie.
Gracie throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rae misses with a body shot.
Rae is looking to land body kicks.
Rae uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gracie.
Gracie lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rae scores with a kick to the midsection.
Rae looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range.
Gracie swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gracie keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rae.
Rae connects with the punch.
Rae throws a lazy uppercut
and Gracie counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gracie gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Gracie falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Rae to counter with a crisp jab.
Gracie misses the shot to the body.
Rae throws a front kick that sends Gracie stumbling back into the cage.

Gracie misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rae throws a poor cross that misses

and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rae's guard now.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rae working for submissions but it's allowed Gracie to get to half guard.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Rae is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rae looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Rae is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rae wants to get back to full guard but Gracie has mounted him!
Rae is trying desperately to improve position.
Rae blocking the ground and pound.
Gracie landing strikes, looking to finish!
Gracie in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Gracie misses with a head shot.
Rae tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rae's face.

Gracie is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Rae has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gracie tries to control but Rae wriggling away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rae looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randjob Gracie dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Gracie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rae tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gracie is in Rae's guard.

Rae looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Rae is retaining full guard.

Rae is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well.
Gracie works over Rae with some ground and pound from guard.

Rae has an active guard here but Gracie has managed to pass into half guard.

Rae looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Rae is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gracie pulls his head out easily.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rae is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rae tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
Gracie is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Rae slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gracie connects with a couple of short punches.

Rae working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gracie has passed into half guard!
Gracie passes to full mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rae tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control.

Gracie jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rae manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Rae tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randjob Gracie dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Gracie throws a jab when Rae was well out of range.
Rae moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Rae connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gracie's hands.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Rae tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rae manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gracie is thwarting Rae's attempts to control the position.

Rae is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rae wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Gracie is now in half guard.
Randjob Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rae is trying to get back to full guard.
Rae wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gracie throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rae is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rae avoid being mounted?
Gracie passes into side control, despite Rae's attempt to control the position.

Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rae, who protects the arm well.

Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rae has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Rae.
Gracie manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Rae is looking to improve his position.
James Rae has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
