PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joao Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lenni Flisa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Costa comes to the cage accompanied by The Coasters - Down In Mexico. Joao Costa looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joao Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lenni Flisa!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flisa moves out of range as Costa throws a body kick.

Costa feints and as Flisa raises his hands in defense, Costa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Flisa manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Costa tries to lock up and control but Flisa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Flisa wants to get back to his feet but Costa is holding on tight.
Costa is in all sorts of trouble here.

Flisa is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Nice sprawl there from Flisa as Costa shoots in.
Costa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Costa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Costa is looking to clinch.
Costa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Flisa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Costa is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Costa tries to close the distance and clinch but Flisa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Costa pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Flisa moves into the clinch.
Flisa landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Flisa turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Flisa manages to end up in side control.
Costa manages to get back to half guard.

Costa looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Flisa tries to stand and escape but Costa is controlling the position.
Costa wants to get back to full guard.
Costa trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Costa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Flisa wants to take a breather but Costa is having none of it.
Flisa prevents Costa from improving his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Costa tries to clinch up

and Flisa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Flisa slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Costa wants to control but Flisa postures up.

Flisa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Costa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Costa manages to get back to half guard.
Flisa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Costa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Costa manages to get to full guard.
Flisa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Costa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Flisa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Flisa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Flisa wanted to stand there but Costa had control of the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Flisa is looking to advance position but Costa has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Flisa is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Flisa is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Flisa regains half guard.
Flisa trying to hold on to Costa's head to control him but Costa postures up.
Flisa punching from the bottom.
Flisa is looking for a sweep. Costa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Flisa is trying to stand back up but Costa is controlling him
Flisa is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Flisa wants to get back to his feet.
Costa trying to control the action but Flisa is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Flisa moves into the clinch successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Costa has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Flisa uses from the top position.

Flisa is sitting in close to Costa's body. Costa has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Flisa is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Flisa is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Costa.
