Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Colon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Huge! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Colon gets a takedown into half guard. Colon throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Colon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Colon throwing shots but Huge is blocking nicely. Huge kicks Colon off and gets back to his feet. Colon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Colon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Huge is looking to escape. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Colon thows a huge punch but Huge dodges it nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Colon is working for a kimura but Huge is defending it quite comfortably.
Colon lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Colon prevents Huge from standing back up.
Colon works his way into full mount! Colon is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Colon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Huge breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Colon lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Huge backs up against the cage.
Huge throws a nice looking combination but Colon bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Huge takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Colon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Huge defends it nicely. John Huge is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Huge tries a low kick but Colon avoids it. Huge throws a right and a left that Colon avoids nicely. Colon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Colon thows a big elbow that misses. Colon postures up and lands a big shot to Huge's brow. Huge working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Colon.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Colon trying to control the position from guard on top but Huge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Huge avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Huge wants to stand and escape but Colon is having none of it. Colon missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Colon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Colon wants to pass the guard but Huge is keeping the position. Huge wants to stand and escape but Colon is having none of it. Colon chips away with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Colon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Huge keeping moving, preventing Colon from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Huge is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Colon is controlling him. Huge utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Colon controlling from the top position. Huge keeping moving, preventing Colon from controlling successfully.
We're going to have a standup here because John Colon wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Huge walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Colon checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Colon scores with a sloppy right hand. Huge should have avoided that one. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Colon dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
A slapping leg kick lands for Colon.
Colon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Huge pinned against the cage. Huge gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Some wild striking there from Huge.
Colon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Huge throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Colon shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Colon. That's going to take a lot out of him. Huge avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Huge lands with a nice body punch. John Colon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Huge thows a leg kick but Colon checks it and Colon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Colon. Colon postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Huge is looking to stand up but Colon isn't so interested in that idea. Colon with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Colon prevents Huge from getting back to his feet. Huge utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Colon gets to his feet - Huge follows without any prompting. Huge shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Colon eats them both and turns towards Huge to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Huge tries to keep at a distance but Colon has taken the fight into the clinch. Huge wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Colon has a takedown stuffed. Colon changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Huge looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Huge is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Colon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Huge, who protects the arm well. Huge wants to get back to his feet but Colon drags him back down. Colon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Colon prevents Huge from escaping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Colon has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Huge is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Colon yanks on the arm and Huge is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Colon.
