Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Peters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Peters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Henry! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henry looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Peters! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Henry trying to control but he's not successful this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Peters gets back to half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Peters manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Henry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peters. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Henry preventing the sweep. Henry is looking to stand up but Peters won't let him. Peters manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henry manages to get himself to full guard.
Peters content to stall in guard here. Peters wants to pass the guard but Henry is keeping the position. Peters is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peters looking to pass the guard. Peters throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Henry works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We're going to have a standup here because John Peters wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Henry has closed the distance and engaged Peters in a clinch.

Henry clinches up against the cage. Henry stops a takedown attempt from Peters.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Henry fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Peters, pushing him back against the cage. Henry lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Peters backwards. Henry pulls guard. Peters wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving. Peters throwing strikes but missing. Peters thows a big elbow that misses. Peters passes easily into side control. Nice work. Peters controlling the position from side mount. Peters in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henry takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Peters in side control lands a decent elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Peters sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Henry is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Peters throwing shots but missing, from side control. Peters misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Peters working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Henry is not content to let Peters control the position. Peters lands a decent elbow from side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Peters is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Henry has escaped the position, nice work there. The strikes coming from Peters are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Peters throws a strike aimed at the side of Henry's head but Henry avoids it well. Peters throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Peters throws an elbow but Henry slips to the side and avoids it well. Peters connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Henry some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Peters dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Henry gets a double leg takedown into Peters's guard. Peters is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Peters has a closed guard, preventing Henry from standing up. Peters lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Henry! John Peters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Peters thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Peters has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Peters takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Peters scoring with strikes but Henry is staying in there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peters sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Peters get's back to his feet. Peters tries to bum rush Henry with a series of wild strikes but Henry uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Henry has Peters up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Henry obliges. Henry breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Henry throws a lazy head kick and Peters counters with a straight right hand. Henry gets caught flat footed, as Peters shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Henry keeping moving, preventing Peters from controlling successfully. Peters pushing down on Henry's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Peters stops Henry from getting back to his feet.
Henry is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Peters trying to control from half guard but Henry is working away. Peters is really struggling to control Henry but he's trying to hold on to the position. Peters is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Henry defends it well. Henry wants to get back to his feet.
Peters wants to work for an arm triangle but Henry is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Peters is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Peters wants to control but Henry is keeping him busy. Peters in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Henry tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Peters!
