Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Markson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Markson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Demian Maia!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markson jabs at Maia's body.

Maia scores with a takedown into Markson's guard.
Maia is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Maia stands and throws Markson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Markson seems a little lost for a moment, as Maia dominates the positioning.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Markson is trying to control Maia's posture but Maia avoids it.
Maia looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Markson is avoiding damage well.
Maia controls the position from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Maia scores a takedown into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia punching from mount but Markson doing a good job of avoiding damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Maia controlling his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Markson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Markson tries to get out of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Demian Maia has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Markson jabs Maia to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Maia wants to clinch.
Markson jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Nice uppercut there from Maia.

Markson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Maia to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Maia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Demian Maia dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Maia displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Markson throws out the jab.
Demian Maia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fight stays on the outside here - Maia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Maia moves into range and clinches up with Markson.

Markson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Maia is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Markson to the mat. Markson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Maia's corner is telling him to maintain position.

We're going to have a standup here because John Markson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Markson misses with a looping left.
John Markson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maia wants to clinch.
Markson scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Markson tries to clinch but Maia is having none of it.
Some wild striking there from Markson.
Markson thows a body shot but no joy.

Markson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A bone on bone clash there as Markson blocks the leg kick.
Maia looks for a takedown but Markson sprawls well.
Markson lands a jab to the head.
A telegraphed right hand from Markson misses the target.
Maia tries to close the distance and clinch up but Markson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Maia shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Maia seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Maia forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

John Markson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Maia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maia controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because John Markson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Maia closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Maia tries to pull guard but Markson holds him up against the cage and eventually Maia drops back down to his feet.

Markson is trying to push Maia away but Maia has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Maia lands a body shot in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Maia swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Maia tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Markson smiles and moves away.
John Markson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Demian Maia.
Markson thows a body shot but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Maia looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Markson!
Maia controlling the pace for now.
Maia with the ground and pound from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Demian Maia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Maia tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Markson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Markson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Maia counters with a nice body shot.
Maia fails with an attempt to clinch.
Maia uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Markson.
Maia connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Markson blocks a leg kick.

Maia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Markson sprawls well initially but Maia persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Markson wants to control but Maia is keeping busy.
Markson wants to stand back up but Maia manages to pass into side control.

Maia has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Markson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Maia yanks on the arm and Markson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Maia.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Demian Maia!
