Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Valera Khamidulin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Meshkov! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meshkov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Meshkov showed some decent athleticism there. Meshkov working the head and body with strikes. Khamidulin trying to control but Meshkov postures up.
Khamidulin regains full guard. Nicely done. Khamidulin is trying to keep Meshkov in close.
Meshkov wants to control from the top but Khamidulin keeps moving. Khamidulin trying to keep a closed guard but Meshkov is proving a slippery customer.
Khamidulin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Khamidulin tries to get out of the position. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Meshkov's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Meshkov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Khamidulin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Khamidulin looking for a sweep. Not yet Khamidulin, not yet. Meshkov looking to sit in guard and control but Khamidulin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Khamidulin trying to control the position from guard on top but Meshkov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Meshkov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Khamidulin wants to stand but Meshkov is controlling his posture from full guard. Meshkov wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Meshkov controls Khamidulin momentarily but Khamidulin frees himself. Khamidulin trying to control the position from guard on top but Meshkov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We're going to have a standup here because Valera Khamidulin wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. No joy there for Khamidulin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Meshkov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Meshkov controlling the action here. Khamidulin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Khamidulin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Meshkov's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Meshkov's back!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Khamidulin gets his hands free as Meshkov looks to control. Khamidulin has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Meshkov manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Meshkov. Meshkov is trying to control the position but Khamidulin postures up. Meshkov wants to get back to his feet but Khamidulin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Meshkov looking to control.
Meshkov is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Meshkov keeping moving, preventing Khamidulin from controlling successfully. Meshkov controls Khamidulin momentarily but Khamidulin frees himself.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Valera Khamidulin just wasn't active enough. A head kick misses from Meshkov. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yuri Meshkov dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Meshkov shoots and misses and Khamidulin counters by clinching up. Khamidulin is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Meshkov can't fight it off and eventually Khamidulin manages to take the fight to the floor. Meshkov looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Meshkov lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Khamidulin! Khamidulin tries to get back to half guard but can't. Khamidulin is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meshkov is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Khamidulin to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Khamidulin shrugs it off. Khamidulin taking shots to the head. Meshkov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Oooooh, big shot lands for Meshkov! Khamidulin is hurt baaadly! Meshkov is firing away with more strikes - Khamidulin is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
