PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kal Too (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Grace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grace has chosen Swagga Like Us as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kal Too!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chuck Grace!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Too rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Grace moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Too fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Grace manages to avoid it.
Grace plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Too fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Too closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Grace did well to prevent Too getting side control.
Too with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Grace trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Too goes for an armbar but Grace turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Grace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Too is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Too lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Grace!
Grace is looking to improve his position but Too isn't that keen on the idea.

Too pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Too controlling from mount.
Too thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Too is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Grace has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Grace!
Grace stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Too swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grace is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Too bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Grace's guard.
Too looking to pass the guard.
Too slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Too stops Grace from standing up.
Too pushes down on Grace's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Too is looking to stall here but Grace recovers full guard.
Too stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grace swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kal Too dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Grace fails with an attempt to clinch.
Too shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Grace defends it nicely.
Kal Too seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grace slips a straight right by Too.
Grace avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Too misses with a double jab.
Too bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Grace tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grace showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Too.

and Grace counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Too is lucky that one didn't land flush.
No joy there for Too, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Too waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Grace.

Too throws an off balance right hand

and Grace counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Grace creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Too on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Too is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Grace pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kal Too. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Grace gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Too.
Too has had enough of the clinch but Grace keeps him there for the moment.

Grace avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Too takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Grace darts in and clinches Too up against the cage.
Grace tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Grace tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Too avoids it.
Grace tries to land knees in the clinch but Too avoids the damage to the body.
Too looking for a takedown.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Grace just misses with a elbow thrown towards Too's brow.
Grace lands a nice elbow.
Grace unloads a knee to the mid-section. Too lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Grace's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Chuck Grace showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Grace closes the distance and pushes Too back into the cage.
Grace tries to land a knee to the head but Too blocks with his arms.

Grace wants to get up but he can't break Too's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Too wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Grace wants to stand and escape but instead Too has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Too wants to pass the guard but Grace is keeping the position.
Grace really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Too. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Grace is trying to hold Too in close to prevent damage but Too has managed to pass into half guard.

Too is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Too controlling the pace.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kal Too wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Too shoots in for a takedown but Grace shows good takedown defense.
Too throws a looping overhand right but Grace ducks down to avoid it.
Grace bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Too misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Grace misses with a low kick.
Kal Too is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Too will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Too looks to score with a jab to the body but Grace is just out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Too misses with a hook. Grace ducked under it nicely.
Grace with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Too to score with a decent uppercut.
Nice defenses there by Grace.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kal Too showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Too has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
