Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samir Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Bruens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reyes comes to the cage accompanied by Celia Cruz - Guantanamera. Bruens has chosen River Below as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samir Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Bruens!
The judges for this bout are , and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes avoids the body shot from Bruens.
Reyes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reyes wants it to stay on the feet.
Reyes misses with a looping right.
Reyes lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Paul Bruens has been cut.
Reyes throws a hook but Bruens avoids it easily.
Reyes swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Reyes swats away the attempt to clinch by Bruens.
Bruens fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bruens connects with an inside leg kick.
Bruens tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Reyes misses with an uppercut

and Bruens counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bruens.

Reyes wants to stand and escape but Bruens is having none of it.
Bruens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reyes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bruens throwing strikes but missing.
Reyes looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Bruens puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Reyes is pressing down on Bruens's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Bruens trying to control the position from guard on top but Reyes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bruens stands up over Reyes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Reyes seems keen to control Bruens's posture.

Reyes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bruens might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Reyes kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Reyes misses with a right hand

and Bruens counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Reyes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Reyes misses with an uppercut

and Bruens counters with a single leg into guard. Reyes didn't expect that.
Bruens won't allow Reyes to get back to his feet.
Bruens trying to control but Reyes is working from the bottom.
Bruens is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Reyes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Bruens throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Reyes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Reyes misses the shot to the body.
Bruens takes a body punch but keeps moving.
A slow jab from Reyes misses its intended target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reyes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bruens.
Bruens bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Reyes bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bruens's head.

Samir Reyes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bruens uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Reyes.

Bruens uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Reyes.
Reyes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Bruens throws a big shot that misses.
Bruens slips a jab from Reyes.
Reyes takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Bruens manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Reyes on his heels. He'll look to pass Reyes's guard now, I'm sure.

Bruens seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Samir Reyes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Bruens throws a leg kick which misses Reyes's front leg but catches the back leg as Reyes tries to avoid it.

and Reyes counters with a stiff right hand.

and Bruens counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bruens thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Bruens is taking a breather. Reyes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Reyes is trying to stand up here but Bruens is controlling him well.
Reyes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bruens wants to pass the guard but Reyes is defending well.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Bruens moves into range and connects with a jab.
Bruens throws a hook but Reyes avoids it easily.

Bruens thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Reyes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bruens is working away from the top position though.
Bruens wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reyes keeps working.

Reyes is positioning himself well to prevent Bruens advancing to mount.
Bruens throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Bruens is trying to control the action in half guard but Reyes is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Bruens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Reyes's head.

Bruens seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reyes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Bruens has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bruens in particular looking to stall.

Reyes checks the leg kick nicely there.
Reyes looks to land a right hand but Bruens moved out of range.

Nice sprawl there from Reyes as Bruens shoots in.
Bruens misses with a left hand
and Reyes counters with a straight right hand.
Bruens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Reyes sprawls well. Reyes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bruens gets slowly back to his feet.
Samir Reyes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Bruens.

Bruens takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Reyes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
