PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Holden Rosenthal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rojo Sangria (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rosenthal comes to the cage accompanied by Rick Derringer - I Am a Real American. Holden Rosenthal had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Holden Rosenthal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rojo Sangria!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Kenichi Hosakawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sangria throws a right hand that misses
and Rosenthal counters with an inside leg kick.
Rosenthal slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Sangria swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rosenthal throws a nice looking combination but Sangria bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Sangria misses with a left hand
and Rosenthal makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sangria throws a right hand that misses
enabling Rosenthal to counter with a crisp jab.

Sangria tries to sprawl but Rosenthal drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Rosenthal is trying to control. Sangria wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Sangria is trying to maintain the position but Rosenthal is very close to passing his half guard.

Sangria slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Rosenthal slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Sangria is trying to escape the position but Rosenthal is controlling the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rosenthal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sangria keeps working.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Rosenthal tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Rosenthal postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Rosenthal is trying to get an arm triangle but Sangria is defending well.
Sangria regains half guard there - taking advantage of Rosenthal's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sangria wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rosenthal is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Rosenthal avoids the attempt from Sangria to control.
Rosenthal content just to control the position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rosenthal wants to control the pace but Sangria is squirming around nicely.

and Sangria decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rosenthal's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sangria bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rosenthal's guard.

Rosenthal controls Sangria momentarily but Sangria frees himself.
Sangria must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rosenthal has his foot on Sangria's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sangria works his way back into a safe position though.

Rosenthal is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sangria defends well.

Sangria is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Sangria is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sangria sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rosenthal's guard.
Sangria is keen to just control but Rosenthal is a slippery customer.
Rosenthal wants to control but Sangria is keeping busy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rosenthal is looking to improve his position.

Sangria is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sangria is nestled in close to Rosenthal, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Sangria is thwarting Rosenthal's attempts to control the position.
Sangria is trying to control the action in half guard but Rosenthal is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Rojo Sangria showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Rosenthal shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rosenthal was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Rosenthal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sangria gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rosenthal has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sangria is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rosenthal.

Sangria tries to advance to mount but can't.
Sangria scores with a couple of short elbows.
Rosenthal is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sangria's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Sangria throws and elbow that misses. Rosenthal uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sangria's guard. Nice move by Rosenthal!

Rosenthal stalling away here and it's allowed Sangria to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Sangria swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Rosenthal is now in Sangria's guard. A big mistake from Sangria there, giving up the dominant position!

Sangria not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

I would just about give that final round to Rojo Sangria.
I think Sangria has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
