PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Stephen Williams was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stephen Williams!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
A jab from Kelly does it's job there.


It looks like Stephen Williams has been cut.

Williams takes one to the side of the head.
Williams tries to clinch but Kelly moves out of range.

Kelly has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Williams regains guard immediately.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kelly throws a strike but Williams rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Stephen Williams hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Williams scores with a jab. Kelly acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kelly slaps away a takedown attempt from Williams, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Williams tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kelly manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Williams is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Kelly shoots for a double leg takedown but Williams sprawls well. He's pushed Kelly's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Williams looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Kelly counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Williams wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Williams controls Kelly momentarily but Kelly frees himself.
Kelly wants to get up but he can't break Williams's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
