PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Hare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker comes to the cage accompanied by The Duck Song. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Hare!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hare throws a low kick but it's checked well by Baker.

Baker decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Baker wants to stand up but Hare has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Baker is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Baker prevents Hare from standing back up.
Baker stalling.
Hare regains full guard. Nicely done.
Baker won't allow Hare to get back to his feet.
Hare keeping full guard, as Baker tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baker is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Baker has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hare has his feet on Baker's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Hare gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Hare tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jimmy Hare seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baker shoots in looking for a takedown. Hare tries to sprawl out of it but Baker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hare manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Baker stands up and beckons Hare to his feet.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baker content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Hare misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Baker looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hare keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hare wants to improve his position but Baker is controlling well.
Still in half guard, Baker seems content to control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Baker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hare's guard.
Hare is looking to stand up but Baker isn't so interested in that idea.

Hare has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Baker off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Baker uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hare.
Hare shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Baker counters with a takedown into side control.
Hare tries to buck Baker off but Baker is having none of it.
Hare tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Baker presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Baker wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Hare tries to hold on but Baker postures up.
Baker looking to control and managing it successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hare wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Baker landing strikes from the mount and Hare is in trouble!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Baker has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Hare.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Baker's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hare dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Baker. That did some damage!

Hare lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Baker!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baker bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Baker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Baker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hare can do to turn this around?

Hare working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Baker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Baker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Baker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
