Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Kelly! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Meed! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kelly lands a slapping body shot.
Meed ducks under a wild hook from Kelly. Meed shoots in but no luck this time. Kelly scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Kelly misses with a takedown attempt and Meed counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kelly won't be happy with that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Meed is looking to take a break and control but Kelly is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Meed working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Meed is trying to get an arm triangle but Kelly is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meed is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kelly has escaped the position, nice work there. Kelly tries to escape but Meed is in control. Kelly knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meed on the ground. Meed tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Meed has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Meed content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Kelly is trying to get back to his feet. Meed has hold of Kelly's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Kelly tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Meed cranks the arm and Kelly screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Kelly, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). David Meed!
