Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Guus Meeuwis ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leif Ericson! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ericson throws a lazy uppercut
and Meeuwis counters with a nice double leg into guard. Meeuwis tries to free his leg and advance position but Ericson is retaining full guard. Meeuwis stays in close to Ericson's body and controls the position. Meeuwis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Meeuwis stopping the sweep attempt from Ericson. Meeuwis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ericson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meeuwis wants to control from the top but Ericson keeps moving. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Meeuwis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ericson's half guard. Ericson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meeuwis . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Meeuwis seems to be working for a kimura but Ericson defends the submission attempt. Ericson wants to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Meeuwis is looking for a kimura but Ericson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Meeuwis to get the leverage. Meeuwis trying to control the action but Ericson is working from the bottom. Meeuwis tries to pass to full mount but Ericson defends it. Meeuwis is trying to control the action in half guard but Ericson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Meeuwis keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Ericson trying to control but Meeuwis postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ericson tries to roll over but Meeuwis keeps him under control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Meeuwis wants to work for an arm triangle but Ericson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ericson can do anything to dispel that myth. Meeuwis is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Meeuwis working for a guillotine from mount but Ericson is in no mood to give up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Meeuwis pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Ericson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ericson wants it to stay on the feet. Meeuwis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ericson did well to prevent Meeuwis getting side control. Ericson is doing well to control the position and prevent Meeuwis from advancing to side control. Ericson is defending against the submission attempts here by Meeuwis .

That's one minute gone in the round. Ericson tries to roll over but Meeuwis keeps him under control. Meeuwis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ericson defends it well. Meeuwis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Meeuwis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ericson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Meeuwis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Meeuwis is trying to work for a kimura but Ericson is defending well.
Ericson is looking to escape. Meeuwis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Meeuwis is stalling here. Ericson is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Meeuwis seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Ericson has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ericson trying to control the position but Meeuwis is working away. Meeuwis is looking to regain half guard here but Ericson keeps moving and retains side control. Meeuwis is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ericson off and has taken his back! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Meeuwis tries to keep control of the position but Ericson is staying busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Guus Meeuwis dominated that second round. That's time! Meeuwis 's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Meeuwis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Meeuwis misses with a takedown attempt - Ericson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ericson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Meeuwis is defended easily by Ericson. Ericson misses with a low kick as Meeuwis jumps back. Meeuwis has his takedown stuffed and Ericson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Guus Meeuwis . That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice uppercut there from Ericson. Ericson cracks Meeuwis with an open hand slap.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ericson throws out a leg kick but Meeuwis moves out of range and Ericson only half commits. Meeuwis tries for a takedown but Ericson circles away easily and Ericson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. A swing and a miss from Ericson. Nice sprawl there from Ericson as Meeuwis shoots in. Ericson has closed the distance and engaged Meeuwis in a clinch.
Ericson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Meeuwis can't get the takedown.
Meeuwis goes for a takedown attempt but Ericson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Guus Meeuwis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Meeuwis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ericson defends it nicely. Meeuwis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ericson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Meeuwis somewhat. Leif Ericson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Guus Meeuwis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Meeuwis dives in and scores a takedown into Ericson's guard. Meeuwis pushing down on Ericson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Ericson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Meeuwis stops Ericson from getting back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meeuwis passes to side control. Meeuwis moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Meeuwis tries to advance to mount but Ericson denies him. Meeuwis controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
We're going to have a standup here because Guus Meeuwis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Ericson pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Meeuwis ducks under a wild hook from Ericson.
And that's the end of the fight! Leif Ericson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Meeuwis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
