Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Finch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Finch misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Silva misses with a combination
and Silva takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Finch keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Silva. Finch moves into the clinch successfully.
Silva is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Finch dodges an elbow strike from Silva.
Finch manages to break the clinch.
Finch lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Finch looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Finch scoring with strikes to the body and head. Silva looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Finch landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Silva moves into full guard.
Finch trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silva looking for a guillotine here but Finch defends easily.
Finch tries to stand but Silva is controlling from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Finch landing some decent shots from guard. Finch working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Silva's head. Silva will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Silva has momentary wrist control but Finch slips an elbow through the middle. Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Silva looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Finch puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Finch looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Silva has hold of Finch's hands but Finch slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Silva is rocked! Finch winds up and cracks Silva with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Silva is still in real trouble! Can Finch finish him? Finch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Silva is trying to stand up here but Finch is controlling him well. Silva looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Finch is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Finch wants to pass to mount but Silva is defending the position. Finch scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Finch connects with a nice short shot to Silva's temple. Silva is trying to escape back to his feet but Finch uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Finch creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Finch landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Finch scores with a couple of short elbows. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Finch lands a few punches from side control. Finch lands a decent elbow from side control. Silva takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Finch is working Silva over with some ground and pound from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Finch working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Silva tries to get back to half guard but can't. A big shot lands for Finch! That's hurt Silva! Will he recover? Finch fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
