PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sparring Partner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Goat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Goat has chosen Impaled Nazarene - Cult of the Goat as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sparring Partner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Goat!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Partner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Goat.
Partner has his takedown stuffed
and Goat counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Goat throws a leg kick but Partner sees it coming and moves out of range.
Partner misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Goat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Partner blocks a leg kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Partner misses with an uppercut. Goat saw that one coming.

Partner is looking to clinch but Goat is avoiding it.
Partner defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Goat.
Good standup being displayed there by Goat as he connects with a hook.
Partner misses with a hook
and Goat counters with a thumping low kick.
Goat misses with a takedown attempt - Partner sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Partner has his takedown stuffed
and Goat cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Goat gets caught flat footed, as Partner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Partner controlling from the top position.
Partner wants to control from the top but Goat keeps moving.
Goat wants to stand and escape but Partner is having none of it.

Partner wants to control from the top but Goat keeps moving.
Partner in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Partner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Partner is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Partner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Goat works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Partner is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Partner is looking to advance position but Goat has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Goat unloads with some shots from mount but Partner bucks and avoids them well.
Partner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Partner is looking to get to half guard.
Partner is working hard here to advance position.
Partner in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Partner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Partner flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Partner is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Goat goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Partner turns into him and now he's in Goat's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sparring Partner will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Goat ducks under a wild hook from Partner.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Partner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Goat was well out of range. Poor timing from Partner.
Goat dodges the punch combination from Partner.

Goat slips a straight right by Partner.
Partner swings for the body but Goat moves out of range.
Goat lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Partner blocks a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Goat misses with a lunging right hand
and Partner counters with a stiff right hand.
Goat defending well as Partner loads up on a big left hand.
Goat misses with a low kick.
Partner scores with a punch to the head.
Goat lands a slapping body shot.
Partner keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Partner throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Goat counters with a nice low kick that buckles Partner's knee momentarily.
Goat thumps Partner with a low kick.
Goat steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Partner.
Partner is trying hard to land a takedown here. Goat sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Partner smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Goat fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Goat throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Partner makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Goat bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Goat misses with a wild combination.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Goat looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Goat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Goat with a lazy takedown attempt
and Partner counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A jab from Partner does it's job there.

Partner closes the distance and pushes Goat back into the cage.
Partner tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Goat's elbow.

Goat has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Partner is trying to keep an underhook but Goat manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Partner looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Partner is trying to control but can't.

Partner gets back to full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Partner is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Goat defends well.

Partner is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Goat is aware though and is defending well.
Goat loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Partner tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Partner is trying to control the position but Goat postures up.
Goat tries to free his leg and advance position but Partner is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Goat wants to control from the top but Partner keeps moving.

Partner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Goat defends it easily.
Partner trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Goat controls from within his opponent's guard.

Partner looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Partner looking for subs off his back but Goat has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Goat is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Goat lands with a punch from half guard.
Goat is pressing down on Partner's thigh, looking to free his foot. Partner is holding on for now.
Goat working the head and body with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Goat is trying to work for a kimura but Partner is defending well.
Goat frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Partner slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Partner tries to roll over but Goat keeps him under control.

Goat is working for a kimura but Partner is defending it quite comfortably.
Partner moves into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Billy Goat.
I think Goat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
