The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the liver by Ballard. Beautiful body shot.
Ligachev misses with a low kick.
Ligachev feints a jab promting Ballard to slip. Ligachev then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Ballard slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Ballard is rocked!
Ballard fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Ballard throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Ligachev counters with an outside leg kick.
Ballard throws a leg kick that is checked
and Ligachev counters with an outside leg kick.
Ballard blocks a leg kick.
Ballard uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ligachev.
Ballard throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ligachev slips under a jab.
Ligachev keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ballard.
Ballard throws a body punch but Ligachev moves out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ligachev.
Ballard scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ligachev thows a body shot but no joy.
Ballard misses with a straight left.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Ligachev misses with a kick to the body.
Some bone on bone action there as Ligachev checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Ballard darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Ligachev thumps Ballard with a low kick.
Ballard throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Ligachev counters with a body kick that stops Ballard in his tracks momentarily.
Ballard throws a leg kick but Ligachev checks it.
Ligachev throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ballard throws a right hand that misses
and Ligachev counters with an outside leg kick.
Ligachev lands a right hook to the body.
Ballard is breathing heavily.
A low kick from Ballard misses
and Ligachev counters with a nice uppercut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ballard misses with the body kick
and Ligachev counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Oh Ballard is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ballard fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Ligachev is out of range.
Ballard seems to have got his legs back now.
Ligachev feints and then cracks Ballard's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ballard down.
Ballard takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Ligachev throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Ligachev, as that shot connected.
Ligachev misses with a double jab.
Ligachev throws a head kick that misses.
Ballard gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Ligachev gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mikhail Ligachev!
