Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luis Carboza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arthur Gracie! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie shoots for a takedown but Carboza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gracie looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Carboza lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
A head kick misses from Carboza. Carboza tries to clinch but Gracie moves out of range. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Carboza shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gracie sprawls well. Gracie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carboza gets slowly back to his feet. Carboza throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Gracie's head. Carboza defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie. Gracie misses with a takedown and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Luis Carboza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arthur Gracie. Carboza shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie taking some punishment here, with Carboza in his half guard. Gracie wants to control but Carboza is keeping busy and won't allow it. Carboza winds up and cracks Gracie with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Carboza is thwarting Gracie's attempts to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carboza is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Carboza working the head and body with strikes. Gracie keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Gracie tries to roll over but Carboza keeps him under control. Carboza is nestled in close to Gracie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Carboza is thwarting Gracie's attempts to control the position. Gracie is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Carboza is staying active. Gracie wants to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Gracie wants to control but Carboza is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Arthur Gracie was stalling too much, according to the referee. Carboza scores with a head kick. Gracie tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Gracie stuffs the takedown attempt from Carboza. Carboza gets slowly back to his feet. Gracie on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Carboza tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Gracie manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Carboza feints a jab promting Gracie to slip. Carboza then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gracie slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Gracie takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Carboza circles away easily and Carboza counters with a head kick. Gracie closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gracie lands in his opponent's guard. Carboza working for a triangle but Gracie defends it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carboza working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gracie has passed into half guard!

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gracie prevents Carboza from standing back up.
Gracie seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luis Carboza dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Carboza gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gracie to score an easy takedown into full guard. Carboza looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Carboza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie stays in close to Carboza's body and controls the position. Carboza throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Carboza looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Gracie slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carboza has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gracie is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Carboza.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gracie just content to control the position. Carboza is trying to buck Gracie off. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Carboza throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Arthur Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Gracie shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carboza's guard. Carboza has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though. Gracie controls from within his opponent's guard. Gracie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carboza has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gracie has managed to get both his arms back between Carboza's legs - danger averted. Carboza is looking for a triangle here but Gracie uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Carboza wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's one minute gone in the round. Carboza is trying to escape the position but Gracie is controlling the position. Carboza manages to work his way to half guard, despite Gracie's best efforts.

That's going to take a lot out of Arthur Gracie.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie fails with the takedown and Carboza counters with a head kick. That will keep Gracie thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Carboza throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily. A combination from Carboza does no damage. Gracie has his takedown stuffed and Carboza counters with a takedown into side control. Carboza working away. Gracie tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Gracie tries to hold on but Carboza pushes him away. Carboza working Gracie over with strikes here. Gracie tries to hold on but Carboza postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Gracie doing his best to control the position. Can he escape? Carboza lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Gracie manages to control the position for a moment. Gracie tries to hold on but Carboza postures up. Gracie gets back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Luis Carboza. Well Carboza has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
