PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Kesler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas's entrance music is Devil went down to Georgia. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kesler's choice of entrance music: Cancer Bats - Deathsmarch. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Kesler!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas throws a leg kick but Kesler moved away.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Kesler closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Thomas did well to prevent Kesler getting side control.

Thomas lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Thomas, as that shot connected.

Kesler moves out of range as Thomas strikes.
A punch lands to the side of Kesler 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Thomas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice defenses there by Kesler.
Thomas lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kesler backs up against the cage.
Thomas shoots for a double leg takedown but Kesler sprawls well. He's pushed Thomas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thomas looks to land a combination but Kesler avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Kesler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Thomas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kesler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kesler manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thomas wants to improve his position but instead Kesler has moved into half guard.

Ryan Kesler comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kesler has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
