Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Paixao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katsunori Kikuno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paixao comes to the cage accompanied by "Death by Blonde" by Devotchka. Octavio Paixao has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Octavio Paixao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Katsunori Kikuno! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paixao misses with a right hand letting Kikuno counter with a right hand. Kikuno drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Paixao has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kikuno can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Paixao trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Paixao keeping moving, preventing Kikuno from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paixao had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kikuno defends it easily. That's one minute gone in the round. Kikuno trying to control the position from guard on top but Paixao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Paixao has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kikuno is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Paixao. Kikuno wants to control but Paixao is keeping him busy. Paixao is looking for a sweep. Paixao trying to remain calm as Kikuno controls from the top position. That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Paixao with the active half guard here but Kikuno passes nicely into side control. Paixao manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Paixao is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Paixao is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kikuno pulls his head out easily. Kikuno slows the pace down in half guard. Paixao looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are battling for position here. Paixao manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paixao looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kikuno passes into side control.
Kikuno is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Paixao has escaped the position, nice work there. The referee asks Kikuno politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kikuno prefers to stall for the moment though. Paixao is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kikuno off and has taken his back! Paixao lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Kikuno hold on?!
Paixao scores with punches and elbows. Paixao has the hooks in. Kikuno is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kikuno trying to control but not successfully. Kikuno has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Paixao. Paixao has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Kikuno has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Paixao missing with punches from the back. Paixao throws strikes from the back but Kikuno rolls nicely and manages to end up in full guard. Nice work by Kikuno. Kikuno wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Katsunori Kikuno will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Paixao swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kikuno counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Kikuno misses with an uppercut. Paixao saw that one coming. Katsunori Kikuno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Paixao moves out of range of the body kick from Kikuno.
Kikuno feints and as Paixao raises his hands in defense, Kikuno changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Paixao has his foot on Kikuno's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kikuno works his way back into a safe position though. Kikuno trying to control the position from guard on top but Paixao is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Paixao working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kikuno doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kikuno manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Kikuno is looking to work some ground and pound but Paixao has wrist control.

Kikuno seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Paixao is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kikuno defends well. Kikuno trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Paixao looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kikuno accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Paixao looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kikuno has picked Paixao up and slammed him! Paixao can't keep hold of the triangle and Kikuno manages to pass to side control! Paixao tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kikuno wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. You can see the frustration on Paixao's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Paixao is looking to regain half guard here but Kikuno keeps moving and retains side control. Sloppy strikes there by Kikuno. Kikuno in side control, throwing shots but Paixao defends. Paixao stops Kikuno from passing to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paixao tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Kikuno presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Kikuno can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Paixao is looking to escape. Kikuno wants to take Paixao's back but he can't do it this time. Kikuno content just to control the position here. Kikuno lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Paixao regains half guard. Paixao tries to get to full guard but Kikuno has control of the leg. Kikuno controlling the pace. Kikuno moves into full mount! Paixao won't be happy about that! Kikuno prevents Paixao from getting the reversal. Kikuno seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Paixao is holding on tight.

Katsunori Kikuno showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Kikuno misses with an uppercut
and Paixao counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Paixao shoots for a takedown but Kikuno saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Paixao takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Kikuno looks to score with a jab to the body but Paixao is just out of range. Kikuno throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Paixao was covering up waiting for the punch and Kikuno finishes the takedown easily into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kikuno stands and throws Paixao's legs to the side, diving into side control. Kikuno content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Paixao is trying to control Kikuno's posture but Kikuno avoids it. Paixao manages to get back to half guard. Kikuno is looking for a kimura but Paixao is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kikuno to get the leverage. Kikuno content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Paixao trying to get back to full guard but Kikuno takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Paixao has given up his back. Will we see Kikuno going for some submissions?
Kikuno is looking to control Paixao but Paixao is wriggling around and keeping busy. Paixao defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

Kikuno wants to control but Paixao manages to buck him off and is now in Kikuno's guard! Nice work there by Paixao! Paixao in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Kikuno is looking for a triangle but Paixao pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Paixao throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Paixao wants to control from the top but Kikuno keeps moving. Paixao works a leg free and moves into half guard. Paixao takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Kikuno is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Paixao scores with a couple of nice shots. Kikuno avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Paixao. Paixao wants to work for an arm triangle but Kikuno is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Octavio Paixao has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kikuno trying to control from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! Katsunori Kikuno comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Kikuno has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
