PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stretch Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Ituano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong comes to the cage accompanied by Coal Chamber--Big Truck. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stretch Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Ituano!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armstrong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Armstrong controls the position.
Sloppy strikes there by Armstrong.
Armstrong working the head with strikes.

Armstrong stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Ituano bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Armstrong tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Armstrong is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ituano's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Ituano prevents Armstrong from improving his position.
Ituano trying to mount his opponent but Armstrong defends it.
Armstrong wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Armstrong tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Armstrong with a poor takedown

and Ituano counters with a shoot takedown. Armstrong fights it but they end up in guard.
Armstrong keeping moving, preventing Ituano from controlling successfully.
Armstrong looking for a sweep. Not yet Armstrong, not yet.
Armstrong is breathing heavily.

Ituano decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Armstrong, up you get!

Ituano gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ituano escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Armstrong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Armstrong postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Armstrong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Armstrong looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armstrong is working hard here to advance position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong throwing strikes from guard but Ituano blocks nicely.
Armstrong thows a big elbow that misses.
Armstrong cracks Ituano with a solid left hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Armstrong misses with a takedown

and Ituano counters with a single leg into guard. Armstrong didn't expect that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ituano thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Armstrong looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Armstrong wriggles free and stands up.
Armstrong shoots and misses

and Ituano decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Armstrong's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stretch Armstrong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Armstrong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ituano's guard.
Armstrong forces his way into half guard.
Armstrong is keen to just control but Ituano is a slippery customer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ituano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Armstrong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ituano avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Armstrong.
Armstrong thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Armstrong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ituano keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ituano.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ituano.
Ituano tries to advance to mount but can't.
Armstrong is looking for a sweep.
Ituano trying to control the position but Armstrong is working away.

Ituano decides to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ituano counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ituano scoring with some ground and pound.
Armstrong is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Armstrong wants to control but Ituano is keeping him busy.
Armstrong uses his free foot to push down on Ituano's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ituano.

Armstrong is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ituano is surviving well by controlling Armstrong's body position as best he can.
Armstrong lands a nice shot to the head.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Armstrong! Ituano is hurt baaadly! Armstrong is firing away with more strikes - Ituano is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Stretch Armstrong!
