Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gerard Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Henry Mabutu!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mabutu throws a looping overhand right but Jones ducks down to avoid it.
Mabutu swings widly with a right hand
and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mabutu's guard.
Mabutu has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Jones off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Jones throws a wild body kick that Mabutu sees coming a mile off.
Mabutu takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Jones tries to clinch
and Mabutu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones is looking for a sweep.
Jones is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mabutu has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mabutu wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mabutu scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Jones to see if he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mabutu lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Mabutu connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jones some visible discomfort.
Jones is rocked!
Mabutu scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Jones is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Mabutu can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Henry Mabutu!
