Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Psil Ander! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wes Chapman! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chapman shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Ander throws a sloppy head kick and Chapman moves out of range easily. Chapman looking to score a takedown here. Ander is defending well but Chapman drives through and ends up in Ander's guard. Ander looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Chapman lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Ander working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Chapman. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chapman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Chapman is in close to Ander's body, working some short punches and elbows. Ander preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Ander wants to stand but Chapman is controlling the position. Chapman slips nicely into half guard. Ander avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Chapman. Chapman lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Ander slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chapman makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Chapman throws a big right hand that misses. Ander has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chapman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Chapman is working Ander over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Chapman thows a big elbow that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chapman working some strikes from top position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chapman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Chapman missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Chapman tries to free his leg and advance position but Ander is retaining full guard. Chapman thows a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chapman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Chapman is looking to work some ground and pound but Ander has wrist control. Chapman chips away with some ground and pound. Chapman scoring with some ground and pound. Chapman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ander is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chapman is aware though and is defending well. Chapman is in close to Ander's body, working some short punches and elbows. Chapman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Chapman stands up over Ander, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Ander is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ander is breathing heavily. Chapman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ander has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chapman has managed to get both his arms back between Ander's legs - danger averted. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chapman cracks Ander with a solid left hand. Chapman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ander preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Ander has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Chapman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ander. Chapman working the ground and pound from side control. Ander takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Chapman in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Ander is rocked! Chapman scoring with punches from side control. Chapman lands a strong strike to the head of Ander. That's dazed him! Chapman looking to finish here. Ander is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Chapman lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
