Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Run On Sentence !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kunichiwa Japan!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Japan with a poor takedown

and Sentence counters with a single leg into guard. Japan didn't expect that.
Sentence missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Sentence won't allow Japan to get back to his feet.
Sentence wants to pass the guard but Japan is keeping the position.
Sentence won't allow Japan to get back to his feet.
Sentence is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sentence pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Japan is keeping the position for now.

Sentence prevents Japan from getting back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sentence misses with a hook. Japan ducked under it nicely.
Japan misses with a takedown attempt

and Sentence counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Sentence is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sentence sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Japan defending well though.

Japan wants to get back to his feet.
Japan looks gassed!
Japan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sentence .

Sentence is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Sentence prevents Japan from standing back up.

Sentence is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Japan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sentence .
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sentence missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Japan wants to get back to his feet.
Sentence drops an elbow to the side of Japan's head.
Sentence is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sentence is trying to control the action in half guard but Japan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sentence lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Sentence thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nice strikes from Sentence there.

Sentence is working for a kimura but Japan is defending it quite comfortably.
Japan tries to kick Sentence off but Sentence keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Run On Sentence dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


No joy there for Sentence , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Japan tries for a takedown but Sentence circles away easily
and Sentence cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Kunichiwa Japan has been cut.

Sentence throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Japan was covering up waiting for the punch and Sentence finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Japan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Japan wants to stand up but Sentence is controlling him.
Sentence postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Japan is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sentence wants to control from the top but Japan keeps moving.
Sentence missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Sentence seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sentence throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Japan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sentence wants to control from the top but Japan keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Sentence is looking to pass into half guard but Japan pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Japan is in guard.

Japan wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Sentence 's closed guard. He's half up but Sentence has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Sentence pivots and extends the arm, Japan falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Sentence ! Well done that man!
