PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Drapeau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Vera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vera has chosen Black Eyed Peas: The APL Song as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daniel Drapeau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon Vera!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drapeau swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Vera counters with a body kick.
Drapeau throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Vera counters with a body kick.
Drapeau throws a right and a left that both miss.
Vera is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Drapeau ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Drapeau misses with a few strikes there.
Drapeau throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Vera counters with a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vera throws a lazy uppercut
and Drapeau counters with a good low kick that Vera was not able to check.

Drapeau shoots in and bounces Vera off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drapeau controls from within his opponent's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Daniel Drapeau wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Drapeau misses with a wild combination.

Drapeau throws a left and a right that both miss
and Vera counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Vera gets caught flat footed, as Drapeau shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Drapeau seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Vera is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Drapeau seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

and Drapeau counters with a thumping low kick.
Drapeau throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Vera counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Drapeau closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Drapeau lands in his opponent's guard.
Drapeau not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Daniel Drapeau.
Vera keeps the fight on the outside.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Vera slips a jab and a cross from Drapeau.
Drapeau throws a poor cross that misses
and Vera counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Drapeau is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Drapeau throws a leg kick which misses Vera's front leg but catches the back leg as Vera tries to avoid it.
Daniel Drapeau is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Vera counters with a good, hard body kick but Drapeau shrugs it off.

Drapeau avoids the head kick by Vera.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Drapeau misses with a low kick as Vera jumps back.

Drapeau loads up on a big right hand but Vera slips the punch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Drapeau.

Vera parries the strikes from Drapeau easily there. Drapeau is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Vera to escape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Drapeau lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vera circles away quickly and effectively.
Vera scores with a head kick.
Drapeau swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Drapeau throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Vera counters with a head kick. That will keep Drapeau thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Vera counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Drapeau misses with a series of wild punches.
Drapeau steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Vera.

And that's the end of the fight!
Daniel Drapeau showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Drapeau has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
