PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marco da Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frosty McPenos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). da Silva kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is It's a Fight. McPenos has chosen "Don't Call Me White" by Nofx as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco da Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Frosty McPenos!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
da Silva misses with a looping right.
da Silva throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
da Silva misses with an uppercut
and McPenos counters with an inside leg kick.
da Silva throws the left hand but McPenos avoids the punch easily.
McPenos moves forwards but da Silva connects with a nice, crisp jab.

da Silva tries to sprawl but McPenos drives through with a takedown into half guard.
McPenos controlling the pace.
da Silva on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if da Silva tries to get out of the position.
McPenos's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
da Silva has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McPenos is working away from the top position though.

da Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
McPenos is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Frosty McPenos has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
da Silva misses with a jab to the body

and McPenos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McPenos.
McPenos sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
da Silva wants to get back to his feet but McPenos is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McPenos works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McPenos in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that McPenos has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

da Silva tries to roll over but McPenos keeps him under control.
da Silva pushes McPenos off looking to stand but McPenos dives back in and keeps control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
McPenos fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Marco da Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McPenos shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McPenos showed some decent athleticism there.

da Silva trying to control from the bottom.
McPenos controlling the action here.
McPenos passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for da Silva!
da Silva is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, McPenos has taken his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Horrible takedown by McPenos or perhaps it was just good defense by da Silva which made him look bad.
McPenos shoots in for a double leg but da Silva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
da Silva throws a looping overhand right but McPenos ducks down to avoid it.
da Silva tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
da Silva rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McPenos moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McPenos.
Marco da Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frosty McPenos.
da Silva throws out a loose jab but McPenos uses good head movement to avoid it.

da Silva misses with a body shot.

McPenos closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into da Silva's guard.
McPenos controls from within his opponent's guard.
da Silva looking for a sweep. Not yet da Silva, not yet.

McPenos controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Frosty McPenos has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

McPenos drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
McPenos stands and throws da Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.
McPenos trying to control the position but da Silva is working away.

McPenos wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by da Silva, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
da Silva trying to remain calm as McPenos controls from the top position.
McPenos looking to punish the body of his opponent here but da Silva is avoiding damage well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
da Silva is trying to improve his position.
McPenos remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
da Silva is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but McPenos is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
McPenos looking to control and managing it successfully.
da Silva tries to lock up and control but McPenos gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frosty McPenos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from da Silva as McPenos shoots in.
da Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
da Silva throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McPenos stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McPenos.
da Silva connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
da Silva throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McPenos sees it coming and avoids it easily.
da Silva throws a right and a left that McPenos avoids nicely.
da Silva misses with a looping right.
McPenos fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
da Silva just misses with a punch to the body.
A slow jab from da Silva misses its intended target.
McPenos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts da Silva as he jumps to the side.
Marco da Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frosty McPenos.
da Silva jabs McPenos to the body, keeping him at a distance.
da Silva scores with a nice head shot.
da Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McPenos was well out of range. Poor timing from da Silva.
No joy there for da Silva, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
da Silva looks to land a left hand but McPenos moved out of range nicely.
Marco da Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

McPenos slips under a jab.
A jab lands there for da Silva.
McPenos moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
McPenos blocks a jab.
da Silva swings for the body but McPenos moves out of range.
da Silva misses with a hook

and McPenos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for da Silva!
McPenos controlling the position easily from mount.
da Silva trying desperately to get to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
da Silva is bucking up trying to escape but McPenos cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

McPenos is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but da Silva is surviving well by controlling McPenos's body position as best he can.

Frosty McPenos is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

McPenos working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
McPenos lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Frosty McPenos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got McPenos winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
