PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Victor Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Gailfus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Victor Romero has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Victor Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeff Gailfus!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romero fails with the takedown

and Gailfus counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gailfus.

Romero is looking for a triangle but Gailfus pushes his legs off easily.
Gailfus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Romero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gailfus accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gailfus should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Romero looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Romero will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gailfus trying to control the position from guard on top but Romero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gailfus drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Romero dives on top into guard.

Gailfus uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Gailfus gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Gailfus moves into the clinch.
Romero fails to pull the fight into his guard.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Gailfus has eaten all the pies!

Gailfus manages to break the clinch.
Victor Romero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gailfus decides to pull guard.

Romero postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gailfus is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Romero, into his guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gailfus stands and throws Romero's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gailfus tries to advance position but instead Romero slips a leg back in to half guard.

Gailfus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gailfus misses with a head shot. Romero uses the momentum to regain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Gailfus dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Romero lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Jeff Gailfus has been cut.

Gailfus rushes Romero and presses him up against the cage.
Romero wants to break the clinch but can't.

Gailfus decides to pull guard.

Gailfus pushes Romero off and gets back to his feet.

Romero tries to keep at a distance but Gailfus has taken the fight into the clinch.
Romero tries to pull guard but Gailfus holds him up against the cage and eventually Romero drops back down to his feet.

Gailfus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Romero tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gailfus gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Gailfus has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Romero uses from the top position.
Romero wanted to stand there but Gailfus had control of the position.

Gailfus looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gailfus wants to control from the top but Romero keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jeff Gailfus wasn't active enough on the ground.
Romero shoots and misses

and Gailfus counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gailfus passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gailfus wants to control the pace but Romero is squirming around nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gailfus get's back to his feet.
Gailfus lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Jeff Gailfus is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Romero lands with an overhand left.
Romero lands with a shot to the body.
Gailfus takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Gailfus scores with a takedown into Romero's guard.
Gailfus is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Romero is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Gailfus rolls with it to try and escape but Romero cranks on the arm and Gailfus is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
