PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ban Ki Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Herzog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Guns N' Roses: Welcome To The Jungle. Herzog comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Chris Herzog is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ban Ki Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Herzog!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim tries to clinch but Herzog is having none of it.
Herzog attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
A low kick from Kim misses
and Herzog counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Herzog tries for a takedown but Kim circles away easily
and Kim counters with a thumping low kick.
Herzog has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kim.
Kim throws a jab when Herzog was well out of range.
Herzog connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Herzog throws a body punch but Kim moves out of range.
Herzog shoots for a double leg takedown but Kim sprawls well. He's pushed Herzog's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Herzog just misses with a punch to the body.
Kim throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Herzog sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Herzog circles away from the clinch attempt.
Herzog tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kim is able to avoid easily.
Herzog changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kim tries to avoid it but Herzog manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kim to the ground. Kim escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ban Ki Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Herzog.
Herzog throws a sloppy head kick
and Kim counters with a slapping leg kick.
Kim lands a head kick. Herzog smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Herzog tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kim sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Herzog somewhat.
Kim tries a head kick but it misses.

Kim connects with a leg kick. Herzog looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Herzog takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kim wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kim throws a leg kick that is checked
and Herzog counters with a straight right hand.
A slapping leg kick lands for Kim.
Herzog throws a poor cross that misses
and Kim counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Herzog takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Herzog avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Herzog fails with the takedown.
Kim wants to clinch.

Herzog will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Herzog throws a sloppy head kick
and Kim counters with a head kick. That will keep Herzog thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Herzog wants to slow Kim down by chopping away at his legs.
Kim throws a leg kick

and Herzog counters with a single leg into guard. Kim didn't expect that.
Herzog is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.
Herzog wants to pass the guard but Kim is keeping the position.
Herzog has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Herzog controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Herzog postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ban Ki Kim will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kim connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Herzog avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The fighters circling - Herzog throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Herzog lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Kim has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Kim and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

and Herzog counters with a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Herzog makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Kim pushes Herzog away with a front kick.
Herzog throws a leg kick that misses.

Herzog shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Herzog showed some decent athleticism there.

Herzog looks to land a strike but Kim avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Kim wants to stand and escape but Herzog is having none of it.

Herzog seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ban Ki Kim.
Herzog lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Ban Ki Kim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Herzog lands with a slapping head kick.
Herzog has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kim finds it's way round the side to connect with Herzog's head.
Kim is looking to clinch.
Kim misses with a looping left.

and Kim counters by clinching up.

Herzog has Kim pressed against the cage.
Herzog tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kim throws an elbow but it misses.
Herzog avoiding damage as Kim throws knees to the body.
Kim swings wildly with an uppercut but Herzog uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kim keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Herzog's efforts to push away.
Herzog tries to pull guard but Kim holds him up against the cage and eventually Herzog drops back down to his feet.
Herzog pushes Kim back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Kim comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Kim is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Herzog jumps guard but Kim stands there with Herzog around his waist. Herzog gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ban Ki Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Herzog.
Herzog is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Kim creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Herzog tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Herzog is trying to drag Kim to the mat but Kim just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kim lands a damaging elbow.

Chris Herzog showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Kim counters with a good low kick that Herzog was not able to check.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch up but Herzog swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Kim counters with a good low kick that Herzog was not able to check.
Herzog bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Herzog keeps the fight on the outside.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nice shot lands for Kim.
Kim is looking to clinch but Herzog is avoiding it.
Kim thuds his shin into the meat of Herzog's side.

Herzog is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Kim content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Herzog successfully pulls guard.
Herzog wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kim is now in half guard.
Kim is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Herzog is trying to maintain the position but Kim is very close to passing his half guard.

Herzog gets full guard.
Herzog looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kim is one step ahead there.
Kim wants to stand but Herzog is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Herzog has an active guard here but Kim has managed to pass into half guard.
Herzog tries to get to full guard but Kim has control of the leg.
Kim takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Kim decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Kim wants to clinch up but Herzog keeps it at a distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ban Ki Kim showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
