PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Junior Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stewie Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stewie Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Griffin counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Gracie slips under a jab from Griffin.

Gracie gets the takedown into side control.
Griffin tries to escape but Gracie is in control.
Gracie misses with the ground and pound.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Griffin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Griffin defends well.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Griffin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Griffin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffin gets to his feet - Gracie follows without any prompting.
Gracie moves out of range as Griffin strikes.
Griffin throws a lazy right hand but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Griffin lands the left hand.
Gracie has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Junior Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie takes a swing at Griffin's ribcage but misses.

Gracie uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Griffin.
Gracie fails with the takedown.
Gracie will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Griffin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Griffin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Junior Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
The fighters circle momentarily. Griffin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Gracie steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Griffin.

and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gracie is defended easily by Griffin.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Griffin doesn't manage to clinch there - Gracie circles away.
Gracie takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Griffin sprawls well. Griffin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.

and Griffin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Griffin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Gracie counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Griffin swivels and escapes.

Griffin scores with a hook to the body. Gracie takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Griffin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Griffin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Griffin might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Griffin misses with a two punch combination.

Griffin has closed the distance and engaged Gracie in a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Gracie wants to break free but Griffin has control.

Gracie fails to pull guard.

Griffin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A lazy left from Griffin finds it's target.
Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Griffin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat.

enabling Griffin to counter with a crisp jab.

Gracie misses with a double jab.
Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Griffin throws a right and a left that both miss.

Nice takedown defense from Griffin. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stewie Griffin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Griffin feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gracies jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Gracie is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Gracie shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Griffin lunges at Gracie with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Gracie's hand.
Oh Gracie is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gracie thows a body shot but no joy.
Gracie swings away with a body shot that misses
and Griffin counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gracie thinking.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Griffin throws an overhand right that lands on Gracie's shoulder, as Gracie tries to avoid the shot.

and Griffin scores with a counter punch that sends Gracie to the canvas! Griffin smells blood - he's punishing Gracie with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Gracie has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stewie Griffin!
