11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jorge! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Pablo Ramlho! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Ramlho. No joy for Jorge on that attempt. Jorge misses with a lunging right hand
and Ramlho counters with a nice body kick. Nice defenses there by Jorge. A looping hook to the body misses from Ramlho. Jorge does a little dance to reset his feet. Ramlho connects with a looping right hand.
It looks like James Jorge has been cut. Ramlho gets caught napping as Jorge dives in and scores a takedown. Ramlho manages to retain guard. Jorge postures up.
Jorge trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Jorge working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jorge slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Ramlho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jorge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ramlho is on top in guard.
Jorge looking for a sweep. Not yet Jorge, not yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jorge looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Ramlho trying to control but Jorge is working from the bottom. Ramlho wants to stand and escape but instead Jorge has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Jorge missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Jorge prevents Ramlho from getting back to his feet. Jorge wants to pass the guard but Ramlho is keeping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jorge is working hard here to advance position. Ramlho has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ramlho is on top in guard.
Jorge wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Ramlho must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ramlho wants to control from the top but Jorge keeps moving. Ramlho looking to sit in guard and control but Jorge gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Ramlho preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ramlho can't keep his opponent in guard - Jorge advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ramlho wants to control but Jorge passes into side.
Jorge scoring with punches from side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ramlho can do anything to dispel that myth. Jorge trying to control the position but Ramlho is working away. Ramlho tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Jorge presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Jorge landing strikes, looking to finish! Jorge lands a nice shot to the head. The referee warns Ramlho that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Jorge controlling from the full mount. Jorge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. You get the feeling that Ramlho really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Jorge is landing with some decent strikes but Ramlho is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Jorge with a couple of short strikes.
Ramlho is rocked! Jorge has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Ramlho is forced to tap!
