Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Cairo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rousimar Alkofer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for John Cairo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed right hand from Alkofer misses the target. Alkofer misses with a takedown and Cairo counters with a nice uppercut. Alkofer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Cairo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Cairo throws a right hand that misses
and Alkofer counters with a single leg into guard. Cairo didn't expect that. Alkofer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cairo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cairo has escaped and now he's on top! Cairo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alkofer on the ground. Alkofer throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Alkofer throws his legs up looking for a submission but Cairo uses it to pass to side control.
Alkofer is looking to reverse the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alkofer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cairo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Alkofer with a poor takedown and Cairo counters with a lovely shot to the body. John Cairo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rousimar Alkofer. Alkofer looks gassed! Alkofer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cairo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Cairo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alkofer moves away. Cairo misses with a leg kick.

and Alkofer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Cairo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Cairo keeping full guard, as Alkofer tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that John Cairo will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Cairo throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Alkofer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Cairo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Alkofer's calf. Alkofer is breathing heavily. Alkofer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Cairo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. John Cairo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rousimar Alkofer.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alkofer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Alkofer moves to clinch but Cairo breaks away enabling Cairo to counter with a crisp jab. Rousimar Alkofer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Alkofer with a lazy takedown attempt and Cairo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Alkofer wants to clinch but Cairo slips to the side and Cairo counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Alkofer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cairo throws out the jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cairo throws a quick inside leg kick. Cairo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Alkofer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cairo. Cairo loads up on a big right hand but Alkofer slips the punch. A cross from Cairo lands. Cairo scores with a shot to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A nice inside leg kick there by Cairo. That's going to slow Alkofer down. Alkofer checks a low kick from Cairo. Alkofer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Cairo counters with a lovely straight right hand! Alkofer uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cairo. John Cairo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cairo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alkofer manages to avoid it. Cairo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alkofer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alkofer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cairo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Alkofer fails with the takedown and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. John Cairo is winning the standup battle so far. Cairo connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Rousimar Alkofer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cairo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alkofer moves away. Alkofer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cairo throws out the jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Cairo dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Nice shot lands for Cairo. Alkofer walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Alkofer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alkofer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Alkofer throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cairo.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alkofer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Cairo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Cairo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alkofer was well out of range. Poor timing from Cairo. Cairo attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Alkofer misses with a takedown attempt and Cairo counters with a nice leg kick. Alkofer keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alkofer has his takedown stuffed and Cairo counters with a nice uppercut. Cairo throws a lazy right hand but Alkofer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cairo scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Cairo motions for Alkofer to come forward. Cairo throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Cairo attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alkofer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cairo is trying to defend but Alkofer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Cairo is trying to stand.

Alkofer wants to advance to full mount but Cairo doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Rousimar Alkofer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! John Cairo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Alkofer has gone for a leg lock! Cairo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Alkofer's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! John Cairo showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cairo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
