Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Materla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materla looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Materla throws a good cross that connects.
It looks like Demian Maia has been cut.
Materla clinches.
Materla manages to pull guard.
Materla has his hands on Maia's head, controlling the position.
Maia tries to stand but Materla is controlling from the bottom.
Maia slips nicely into half guard.
Maia has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Materla tries to lock up and control but Maia gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Maia looking for a guillotine from mount but Materla is having none of it.
Maia looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Materla is wriggling around trying to escape.
Materla wants to control but Maia is having none of it.
Maia moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Materla has worked his arm free - good work by Materla !
Maia stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Materla tries to clinch up but Maia circles away and keeps his distance.

and Materla counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Materla .
Maia has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Materla is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Maia.
Maia is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Materla off and has taken his back!

Materla wants to control his opponent's hands but Maia gets his hands free.

Materla really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Maia is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Materla has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Materla has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Maia is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maia had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Materla defends it easily.
Maia wants to stand and escape but Materla is having none of it.
Materla controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Materla lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Maia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Well, if Materla is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Demian Maia will probably get the nod.

Materla cracks Maia with a solid left hand.
Maia looking for subs off his back but Materla has passed one foot through into half guard.
Materla is working for a kimura but Maia is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Demian Maia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Materla throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Maia tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Materla is in Maia's guard.

Materla takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Materla prevents Maia from getting the reversal.
Materla cracks Maia with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Maia is looking for a sweep. Materla is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Materla is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Maia has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Materla should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Maia has tightened it up now! Materla should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
