Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DrZawi Hawass! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brent Squires! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Squires fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Squires shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Squires showed some decent athleticism there. Hawass tries to roll over but Squires keeps him under control. Hawass has one foot on Squires's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Hawass throws a series of punches but Squires avoids them all with ease. Squires gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hawass counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Hawass throws a right and a left that both miss. Hawass stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hawass wants it to stay on the feet. DrZawi Hawass has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brent Squires. Squires closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Hawass wants to get back to his feet but Squires drags him back down. Hawass on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Hawass explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Squires shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hawass wants to stand but Squires is controlling the position. Hawass preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Hawass throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Squires slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Hawass is trying to buck Squires off. Hawass takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Squires in side control lands a decent elbow. Hawass is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Hawass on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hawass tries to get out of the position. Check out the look on Squires's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Squires misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Hawass takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hawass is pushing Squires's head away, looking to escape. Squires manages to hold on to the position though. Hawass gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Squires working the ground and pound effectively.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Squires landing punches. Squires avoids the attempt from Hawass to control. Squires lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hawass hang on? Squires landing strikes from the mount. Squires avoids the attempt from Hawass to control. Squires lands a big elbow. Hawass wants to hold on but Squires pushes him away. Squires raining down shots from the mount! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Squires lands a big elbow. Squires scoring with strikes but Hawass is staying in there. Squires has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Squires lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Hawass really wants to buck Squires off and get back to his feet. Hawass is breathing heavily. Squires scoring with strikes but Hawass is staying in there. Squires raining down shots from the mount! Squires in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Hawass is rocked! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big strike lands for Squires! That's really hurt Hawass and he's turned his back - Squires keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Squires jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
