PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luke Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Wilbur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ennio Morricone - For a Few Dollars more. Marcus Wilbur acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luke Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Wilbur!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilbur tries to land a front kick but Johnson steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Johnson takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Luke Johnson has been cut.

Johnson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wilbur to the mat! Wilbur manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Wilbur is keeping the position.

Marcus Wilbur has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Johnson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Wilbur displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown. Wilbur tries to sprawl out of it but Johnson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wilbur manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Johnson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wilbur knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Wilbur, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Wilbur against the cage but Wilbur circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Johnson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Wilbur is on top in guard.

Wilbur got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wilbur has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.

Johnson looks up at the clock and then as Wilbur takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Johnson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Johnson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Wilbur sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Marcus Wilbur has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
