Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jackson Riley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergeio Culnas! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Culnas throws a combination that misses and Riley counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Riley. Riley looks to throw an elbow but misses. Culnas stops a takedown attempt from Riley.
Riley drops down looking for an ankle pick but Culnas pulls his leg out and moves away.
Culnas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Riley counters with a single leg into guard. Culnas didn't expect that. Culnas pulls Riley in to control the position. Riley prevents Culnas from getting back to his feet. Riley trying to control but Culnas is working from the bottom. Culnas is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Riley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Riley passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Culnas is refusing to be controlled, as Riley sits in half guard. Riley wants to pass the guard but Culnas is defending well. Riley wants to stand up but Culnas has a hold of him and won't allow it. Culnas tries to kick Riley off but Riley keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Riley stands up from half guard. Culnas throws a series of punches but Riley avoids them all with ease. Culnas throws a combination that misses and Riley counters with a body kick. Riley avoids a punch combination nicely.

Culnas looks to land a combination but Riley avoids it well. Sergeio Culnas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Culnas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Riley moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Culnas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Riley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Culnas tries to avoid it but Riley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Culnas to the ground. Culnas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Riley is breathing heavily.

Riley tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Culnas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Riley moves out of range and avoids them all easily. That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Riley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Culnas controlling from the top position. Culnas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Culnas trying to control but Riley is working from the bottom. Riley is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

so Riley counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Riley sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Culnas's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Riley is looking to advance position but Culnas won't allow it. Riley is looking to take a break and control but Culnas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Riley is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Culnas to slip a leg under and get back to full guard. Riley postures up.
Culnas lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Riley! Culnas wants to control the pace but Riley is squirming around nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Culnas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jackson Riley dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Riley looking to sit in guard and control but Culnas gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Culnas not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Let's hope that Culnas has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Culnas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Riley is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Culnas trying to control the position from guard on top but Riley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Culnas content to stall in guard here.

and Riley counters with a nice double leg into side control. Culnas won't be happy with that. Riley slows the pace down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Culnas is pushing Riley's head away, looking to escape. Riley manages to hold on to the position though. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Culnas can do anything to dispel that myth. Culnas gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Riley moves to the back position.

And that's the end of the fight! Jackson Riley showed his dominance in that final round. Well Riley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
