PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Bonn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ping Pong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pong is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: enae Volare Mezzo. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Bonn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ping Pong!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pong misses with a takedown
and Bonn counters with a big head kick but Pong shrugs it off.
Bonn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A head kick from Bonn lands but Pong takes it in his stride.


Pong is rocked!
Bonn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pong is still on wobbly legs! Can Bonn finish him?

Bonn has Pong up against the cage in a clinch.
Pong seems to have recovered his senses.

Bonn breaks the clinch.
Pong has his takedown stuffed

and Bonn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pong's guard now.
Bonn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bonn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Pong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bonn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bonn sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pong keeping moving, preventing Bonn from controlling successfully.
Bonn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bonn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pong on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Michael Bonn wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Pong has his takedown stuffed

and Bonn counters by clinching up.
Michael Bonn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ping Pong.

Bonn drags the fight down to the ground.
Bonn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Pong tries to free his leg and advance position but Bonn is retaining full guard.
Pong stopping the sweep attempt from Bonn.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bonn is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pong passes Bonn's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Pong is just content to waste time from the top position. Bonn takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Pong prevents Bonn from getting back to his feet.
Bonn is breathing heavily.
Pong wants to control from the top but Bonn keeps moving.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Bonn is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pong is aware though and is defending well.
Pong advances position into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bonn wants to control but Pong postures up.
Bonn prevents Pong from improving position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pong trying to control the action but Bonn is working from the bottom.
Pong tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Pong has hold of Bonn's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Bonn seems comfortable defending it but Pong has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Bonn is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Bonn is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Pong couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ping Pong!
