Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Arthur McDermott! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Javier Garrido! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garrido lands a straight punch to the body, keeping McDermott at a distance.
Garrido closes the distance and clinches up with McDermott, looking for a takedown. Garrido pushes McDermott against the cage but McDermott circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. McDermott will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McDermott throws a poor cross that misses
and Garrido counters with a right hand to the body. McDermott throws a looping overhand right but Garrido ducks down to avoid it. Garrido slips a jab from McDermott. McDermott misses with the combination.
Garrido lands a nice hook to McDermott's body. McDermott takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Garrido throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. McDermott misses with a straight right. Garrido shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and McDermott counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Garrido takes a swing at McDermott's ribcage but misses. Garrido throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Garrido thows a body shot but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garrido misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McDermott.
McDermott uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Garrido.
Garrido closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McDermott's guard. Garrido controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Garrido loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Garrido working some strikes from top position. Garrido landing with the ground and pound. Garrido tries to free his leg and advance position but McDermott is retaining full guard. McDermott looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garrido advances to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Garrido prevents McDermott from improving his position. McDermott has hold of Garrido's hands but Garrido slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Garrido trying to control from half guard but McDermott is working away. Garrido frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A nice elbow there by Garrido.
It looks like Arthur McDermott has been cut. Garrido controlling the position easily from mount. Garrido is in the full mount, landing strikes.
McDermott is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garrido working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. McDermott looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Garrido! Submission of the night perhaps?
