Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heinz Peter Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schmidt has chosen Erbarme, zu spät, die Hesse komme! as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Heinz Peter Schmidt enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frank Mir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Heinz Peter Schmidt! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mir throws the kick towards the body but Schmidt avoids it. Schmidt looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Mir shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schmidt's guard. Mir decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Schmidt moves forwards but Mir connects with a nice, crisp jab.
It looks like Heinz Peter Schmidt has been cut. Mir misses with a low kick. Mir has his takedown stuffed and Schmidt counters with a stiff right hand. Mir scores with a takedown into Schmidt's guard. Mir slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Mir slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Schmidt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mir. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mir decides to take the fight back to the feet. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Schmidt gets caught flat footed, as Mir shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Mir is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Mir decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Schmidt, up you get! Mir changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Schmidt tries to avoid it but Mir manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Schmidt to the ground. Schmidt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Excellent takedown into side control there by Mir. Schmidt tries to escape but Mir is in control. Mir is looking to take a break and control but Schmidt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mir advances nicely into full mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mir jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Schmidt is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Schmidt and Mir has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Schmidt is trying to improve his position. Mir taking a breather here. Schmidt explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Mir doesn't succeed with the takedown and Schmidt counters with a lovely straight right hand! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mir fails with the takedown letting Schmidt counter with a right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmidt gets the takedown into side control. Schmidt working the ground and pound from side control. Schmidt is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mir will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Schmidt looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Mir is avoiding damage well.
Mir is trying to control Schmidt's posture but Schmidt avoids it. Schmidt trying to control the action but Mir is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mir defending against the ground and pound. Mir manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Schmidt is not content to let Mir control the position. Mir is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Schmidt is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Frank Mir!
